If your trying to buy a second car to make fast the celica isn't your best choice. Don't get me wrong, I love my celica because its a great looking daily driver but compared to other platforms its really expensive to make fast. If you like mitsubishi's and awd check out the 3000gt vr-4 with a 5spd tranny. My friend had one and it had a few minor issues but it was a nice looking weekend warrior. If you would like to stay with toyota (a good decison), you could find a decent mr2 in your price range. Or if you really want to be unique and you can justify the spending of A LOT of money you could buy a second celica (~$2000), do a 3sgte swap (~$4000), and plan on doing an AWD conversion in the future. Even with the AWD and some go fast goodies your celica will probably be in the low 12's in the quarter mile and you will spend $12000+ on the car. I can think of a lot of cars that you can much faster for the same money.

For example?

I dont really want to be another WRX kid, there are enough of those around...

The 4g63 is a kick ass engine. Crank walk is actually only an issue with the second gen motors. I say keep the celica for reliability, pick up a first gen in good condition, deal with any problems it may have and you still will save money over a proper swap.

.........

Or keep looking for a celica all trac like every one else wink.gif

I have been looking at getting a second car, probably for some of the same reasons as you. I know I want RWD or AWD so that knocks out the h22 and b18 swapped hatchbacks and other hondas that I always see on craigslist (also don't want to be another civic kid lol). 240's are nice tuner cars escpecially with an sr20 under the hood. 300zx's are pretty unique and have lots of potential. An MR2 would make a great performer (my favorite choice because you have a 3sgte in a small rwd car). Or you could by a 3sgte celica have a decently fast car. But be careful about buying any swapped car because although you usually save lot of money on the initial purchase the guy before you could have half @ssed it and you'll end up with a money pit.

Well i think i finally made some choices...

I am going to spend more money on my current celi, custom wall for my subs, more subes, 4in door speakers another amp, newer speakers in the rears, and maybe even 2 more 8's in the trunk, window tint, exhaust, lower it and throw some rims on it... the paint it...

Ihave some other stuff i should really be buying, like my ar-15 before they get banned wink.gif and a laptop and a ps3 and probablly another tv:)

I'm going to keep my eye out for a broke down supra or gsx that i can buy for fairly cheap and then pimp it out for horsepower:)

I was talking to my friend about supra's and was like "ya they are awesome and they are even harder to find than celica's, like seriously i havent seen one in more than a month" i say this as i pull into a parking lot with one in it! i parked next to it, it was beatuiful:)

thanks for everyones opinions and stories:)

ECLISPES have no head room, at all i sat in one and it felt like i was in a miata good thing it was a convert so i could look over the windsheild just like in the miata, if you want a diff car go 240 lots of parts and goodies easy to find as well but id say get the celi

This man speaks a lot of win.

The market for 240s is pretty good right now for someone to just pick one up, convert it to a silvia and then sell it back to some n00bs in the LA area so you can afford a ST185. Or just keep it.

There's too many things you can do to a 240 especially since it shares its platform with the Nissan Silvia. The best part about them is, its almost too easy to find one and its super cheap to swap anything into. SR20DET, CA18DET, VQ35DE, VG30DETT, RB20DET, RB26DETT, 4AGE, 3SGE, F20C, LS1, older 350s, 13B and 20B, its got more swap options than any car I've EVER heard of AND they're all routine and documented because nobody wants the stock underpowered engine in the car.

Before I got my celi I seriously considered the 240SX. That and the Integra (I almost became a honda kid... ewww :'( )

One thing I hate about Eclipses is the orientation of things and common issue of the computer box problem. << so common. Everything is just placed in the engine bay inconveniently. For example to replace a fuel filter which is part of regular maintenance which means it should be easy to access, isn't. You have to remove your air filter, battery, windshield resevoir, and I think brake resevoir - loosen and the fuel filter is located at the very bottom of the firewall which makes it easy to crossthread especially when it hasnt been changed in a while. The oil filter is also located vertically which makes all the oil spill everywhere. Just a pain for everything on these cars. Besides that, if it is working good, it really is a nice car.
