Hey guys,
I recently bought a '94 celica GT. I found it at a local Toyota dealership with under 100k miles on it. I actually even talked them down to low blue book as well! The car is completely cherry, not a scratch or ding on it. It was owned and operated by a lady in her mid 40's as a weekend car and probably was never taken over 3500 rpms. From what I can tell, this thing is as close to finding one brand new (at least in my area) as you can get.

So I got my beloved celica home, and ended up finding this site. One of the reasons why I love the older 94-99 celica's is for their styling. A mixture of an integra and a supra, which are both cars that I like the looks of. After searching through these forums however, I learned about the GT-4s, where my cupholders are (yeah, couldn't find them) along with many other interesting topics.

However that leads me to my actual question. Since all of you not only have owned or do own a 6th gen celica, what tasteful mods do you recommend? I LOVE the stylings of the GT-4, but I find it useless to put a bunch of exterior mods on a car that is only pushing out ~130hp, and in all honesty, when I want to break 160mph I just jump on my '97 suzuki gsxr 750. In any event, it's still much quicker then my last car - a '91 4runner 4x4

So let me know what you guys think. I found the GT-4 hood on ebay, along with the spoiler risers and some other misc. stuff. I do understand that trying to find a decent shape and decent price body kit for this thing will be a headache, but that's where I'm hoping some of the senior members here can step in. Like I said, I'm looking to do tasteful mods, and if anyone has something lying around I might be interested in taking it off of your hands.

As you can see, Betsy is in magnificent shape. I love her to death. I lucked out even more since this one has EVERYTHING you could have asked for; the ABS package, Leather seats, etc.

Clear turn signals, JDM tails, JDM fogs, window tint, splitters, skirt, lower it, JDM folding mirrors, new (tasteful) rims. That's where I'd start - it's subtle but maintains the original lines and beauty of the car IMO.

Really your best best is to spend some good quality time pouring through the members gallery and taking note of what you like and what you don't like. Modding our cars is so very specific to our own taste - unless of course you're just doing it to impress other people, but I guess that's a different story now isn't it.

I hope you have a good job, because your life just got a lot more expensive with the discovery of this new hobby! VERY nice find there - and welcome to the site.

I've been looking around the forums and I like the JDM SS-III and GT-4 parts the most. While some of the 3rd party front ends look decent, they're too... modern for my taste. For whatever reason, I like the mid to late 90's stylings in bikes and cars the most.

As of right now, I'm already working on putting in one of the better JVC DVD decks, tinting, and probably will lower it about 1.5-2inches within the next couple of months. I actually like the rims that are on there now, and while they might not offer the best traction or cornering, I love them a whole hell of a lot more then 90% of the 3rd party rims on the market right now.

I am also planning on putting grilling behind the front end. Nothing too fancy, just a run to Home Depot for some decent wiring (not chicken wiring).

Right now I'm a computer technician at Apple's main campus in Cupertino. Basically I fix all of the internal Apple employee's computers. I make enough to support hobbies in small amounts. However this becomes a little difficult choosing what to spend it on - my bike or my car. Since my bike needs new rotors, new jetting (for the whole titanium akrapovic exhaust), tires, chain, and sprockets, right now is being spent on it. I do like to keep my eyes on different things that I could put into my car though, so I'm trying to see what I'll have planned out for it for the upcoming months.

You just can't go wrong with them! Everything I post is off of either a first gen 17" mbp or a dual 2.0 G5.

P.S. One of the reasons why I'm asking for suggestions is because I've been reading all of Jose Hernandez's story and fall loosely within the same predicament. I fell in love with the '94 twin turbo Surpas back in the day, and since I don't have $60k for one, I figure I might as well get the next best thing, a '94 celica. Since he's found so much help through these forums, I'm merely just putting out a "SS-III and GT-4 parts wanted!" add, lol.

if you want an ssIII replica (which i am currently building myself ) first you'll need is a facelift bumper, oem skirts, ssiii front and rear splitters (or if you are lucky like me you might come across a tom's option magic lip), and shaved riser blocks. parts can be kinda hard to come by this car though so you really have to scour and check the buy sell forum regularly. if you don't like the aftermarket rims out there you should consider getting some tc rims or 7th gen gts rims (my preference of the 2; although they are smaller i love the 5 spoke look) plus they will be cheaper than aftermarket rims if you look around enough.

interior mods- a sound system was a must for me. mine is almost done but eventually i will improve and get better subs as well as new door skins so i can add 2 more speakers while keeping the stock look.

personally i love the subtle mods the best. nothing too extreme but still makes it look really nice. if the only thing you did was lower it and get new rims and tint, your car would look better than most other tuners.
then again i do have a very biased opinion

don forget you can swap Mr2 front seats, get the Matrix M theory rims, triple spoke leather steering wheel and TRD front bumper like i did (braggin)


ebay sometimes is your best bet, altough you can search jarco and jhotimports for goodies.


be creative and subtle, dont be extreme, or it may not look good. go ferris is right.

smaller pics would be nice.

great start would be:
having a nice exhaust set up and intake
rims, tires, brakes, suspension, sway bars, and sounds..........

then you could move on to exterior styling like riser blocks, skirts, etc.

(kinda going by price and availability)
then the engine swap and what not after

start with removing that hideous front license/advertisement plate. lol

Dude you got your celica at same place I got mine! Toyota Sunnyvale. Mine was a 96 GT. I didn't know they had a 6gc there.

First thing to do is make your pics smaller

Nice Celica. I would suggest the following:

1.) JDM projectors w/HIDs
2.) JDM tail lights
3.) JDM fogs for pre-facelift
4.) Wolfie clear turns
5.) 7th gen Celica GTS rims
6.) Koni struts
7.) Tein lowering springs
8.) Window tint
9.) Upgrade sound system (keeping factory looks)

Since the body is in good shape, i'd try to keep it stock and not start doing GT-4 conversions etc. We have some nice bolt-ons like the projectors etc. Keep it clean and in its original condition.

Looks clean, very clean.

On the other hand, nice group shots. You guys look so ballin and menacing.

First mod: take off the damn front plate.

Second, take some interior shots. Smaller pics, preferably.

Unfortunately, the plate has to stay for now, I'm still waiting on my actual plates to be sent in (along with my reg) and in my area cops have been cracking down on anyone who removes their front plate and giving them hefty fines.

Yup. I'm agreeing with many of you as to where I want to take her. First will be the sound system, then tinting, then I'm thinking about a borla cat back exhaust (full system with probably greddy headers), etc. It's just going to take some time.

The pictures are uploaded in their raw image size, however very very lightly cleaned up by myself. I hate people that post tiny pictures, and since this thread will resize pictures, why not post large ones? Besides, they work well for your desktop :-P

The celica was obviously traded in. It actually sat on the lot for close to 4 months before I even got it. The minute I sat down and started signing paper work it came back from a test drive where the guy wanted to buy it too. Since I had already signed, it was legally mine :-D

Thanks for all of the suggestions, especially for the rims. If I can find 16" 5 spoke silver (not chrome) and lower it 1.5-2 inches, I think I'll be set.

I have actually been looking into projectors, the only thing that's keeping me away from them are they have oodles of plastic. I have friends with projectors that are consistently washing and waxing them to keep from oxidization on the lens cover. That's one of the reasons why I love the stock headlights, you can't go wrong with a glass lens cover.

Just to clear things up, I like the way the GT-4 looks (mostly the hood and the riser blocks under the rear spoiler) as to the actual engine/awd I'm not going to bother trying to import them. I might end up with just a GT-4 hood and the riser blocks on an almost stock body. It's all just a matter of what I can find and for what price. I can't just be throwing away $1000 for a hood ya know.

All of the pictures were taken using a Canon 40d with a night lens on it. All were taken at a local park that we ended up being kicked out of about 3 shots after the final one I have on here. From there I just edited the pictures to bring out a warmer temperature, along with changing the sharpness, highlights, etc.
