So i have decided to remove my box in my trunk and to mount the subs into a wall in my trunk. I say trunk because i have coupe. So i understand how to make the wall and mount it to my car the fiberglass it too the sides of my trunk to keep it in place and looking good with out rattling around. Now if i make this wall the only thing that would act as the back(like the back wall in a box) would be my back seat.
So if i mount my subs into a wall in my trunk can i use my seats as the back of the "box"? or will i need to make a back pannel? I say "box" beacause i will be using my car's body to make up the top bottom and sides of the box... if it is unclear what i mean please let me know and i will try to explain better... -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

You're basically making a baffle board setup and using the subs in a free air type of design. It'll work, just make sure the subs are rated for free air use. What I'd do is mount the "wall" at the front of the trunk just behind the seats with the subs facing forward. This turns the entire trunk into the box per se', and gives you a very slight chambered effect with the free space between the front of the wall and the seat backs.

Well i want to have the wall towards the back of the trunk with the subs facing the rear bumper... That way i'd mack the space right behind the seats and under the deck lid into the "box"... thanks for your input, but i dont want to have my subs facing the front of the car right behind my seats... i'd never get to show them off:) -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

Bump...
I want my subs facing the rear of the car, i want them to go into a wall that then uses the trunk as my "box" i would put another peice behind the back seats to give it a good "seal" i'd have all the sheet metal dyno matted. Thus i am using that space below the rear deck lid as my box... My dad is concerned that if i do that i will end up weakening and exposing the weld on the frame that holds the top on to the body, and that then it would show through the paint and be unsafe... ??? Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated... -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated... this is my two cents. i have had many many many set up including a walled off celei and cavie both with 2 15's or 4 12's but your jsut making a wall in the trunk if i read it rite i just got off of a 12 hour night shift so bare with my bad speeling and gramer lol. most people will say the bass sounds better when you rear load the subs meaning that they face the back of the trunk but that is based on the 1/4 wave length rumor meaning the distance from the fromt of the sub to your ears is 1/4 of the wave length of the turning freq. of your box.. but that does not apply with the celie or any other coupe only with hatch or open ended cars it will sound better cleaner and louder if you fire them rite against the back seats i know you dont want to but it will be a way nicer sounding set up. the cloth of the seat acts a filter the gets rid of unwanted sounds echo's and interference. if you build a mini wall and have them rear loaded like what you want to do you will hear more rattle than bass i know that alot of people will disagree but its the truth i have SPL graphs to back it up i built a mini wall that was front loaded in a buddies cavie a few weeks ago and out the car it souned like a low powed 10 but in the car it was unreal... rite now i am building a comp car with one 15 on 10,000 watts at 16 volt's and i am looking to hit 155 db on a term lab that may not sound like that much but its a 35 hz... i know what i am talking about and would even help design a box if you want it depending on were you live i would even leand a hand but its your car and your build and i know how that goes lol so best of luck man PM if you need advice or any questions reagrading turning or anything jsut trying to help -------------------- -Boss III
