i wanna switch to synthetic oil for my 94 gt. i have castrol gtx 10w-30 and a fram filter in it now. i though about royal purple and castrol sytec. i heard that castrol syntec isn't the best synthetic oil and i also heard that royal purple isn't good if your car has over 90,000 or so miles. so i just wanted to hear what people have to say. my friend, who has a 2000 gts said that mobile 1 and an oem filter is what people recommend for his car. so what is the best synthetic oil and filter for a 6gc?

mobil1 and oem filter please do a test - after 10k km change your oil, first using mobil1 5w50 and then MOTUL after draining the old oil compare the color, texture and density of both Toyota dealers recommend Mobil1 for all Toyota cars but the again they used to recommend Castrol a while back.... |

Amsoil. http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?subcategory=40
As for weight, I prefer 5W-30. This post has been edited by GotToyota: Aug 1, 2008 - 1:09 PM |

There are many on-line retailers that have that in stock. Google it to find the one you like most. It is also 40% cheaper in US than it is here. For that price I would not hesitate a second to give my engine one of the best Oils there is.

was using castrol syntec 10w-40 with k&n filter.
then suddenly changed to mobil 1 10w-30 with mobile 1 filter. both are good but i get slightly better gas with the mobile 1 **used both 30 and 40 for both** -------------------- I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

Castrol GTX 10w-40 with Toyota OEM filter. Of course if you got the cash get Royal Purple oil. Reason for 10w-40 is when your car is not new anymore like ours and the temperature. I think thats why me and 808 use the same oil weight.

You can't go wrong with AMSOIL, I have yet to read anything NEGATIVE about that oil...I can't say the same about mobile1.

X1000. after seeing how castrol reacted in my motor, then how CLEAN arts motor was using mobil1, i switched to mobil, and will never use a castrol product again. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I work at the ExxonMobil refinery in Baytown Texas and recently took a sample of my used Mobil 1 5w30 with around 6k miles on it into our lab for testing. They reported back that the oil was still good for continued use. Of course I changed my oil anyway but I will continue to use the Mobil 1 brand. Today a saw a new blend in Walmart, 0w30 its supposed to improve gas mileage by 2%, gonna try it for my next oil change.
