Just curious, but why a 99 specifically? They're pretty much the same 96-99.

the 97 was "limited Edition" and got to have spiffy dragon logo's and a few other perks.

Only if you get a vert or an ST. I agree with the OP - The '99s are typically all the way with leather, ABS, skirts, Three post steerintg wheel. the better 3 post wing, and they have the better 98+ 5S-FE that has the metal HG from stock. I'd get another '99 If I could for a DD - it'd be perfect for me.
Good luck with your search - I'm pretty sure someone in the Buy/Sell section was/is selling one recently wink.gif

oh... the only 97 i've been in was a 'vert tongue.gif My bad. Sorry for the misleading info.

The 99's 3-spoke steringwheel is FTMFW!! I'll agree with that thumbsup.gif

Check Craigslist.com they've often got some good buys. G/L

I want a '99 GT too. That's what I wanted when I found my '94... the few '99s I could find I only found at dealerships, and they were easily $10k kindasad.gif

If I had 5k I would, especially knowing I could get most of that back selling my own car.

Just the normal things when looking for cars, clean oil, full lock and turn around and check for clicking noises (CV joints), listen for any crunching in the gears, check to see if clutch is slipping, brake hard to see if rotors are bad. If It is a good deal and has bad CV's you're better of getting it as they aren't a major problem and they will need replacing eventually anyway.

The only things that have gone wrong on mine (190k) is water pump needed replacing, CV joints, upholstery on doors starts coming off, glove box behind the gear knob has a melted look. thats about it really apart from silly little things like lights dieing, fuses going and then normal wear of dizzy cap, rotor, spark plugs, leads.

personally if i could do it again i would get a 94-95. cheaper and can look just as good. and death i'm not sure what you are talking about the 3post being better than the 94-95 2 post. also the 99 didn't have the front strut bar that the 94-97 GT model did. 98s also had the 3 post steering wheel (which is much better looking than the 4 post if i do say so myself) but you can also swap that out with either a 98+ or a 7th gen (which looks the best IMO).
granted i like the facelift bumper much better but you can easily swap that as well.
either way no matter what you get you'll enjoy it.
