hmm..im supprised no one from T.O. posted this yet, but i guess i will. Last Saturday at about 3am, there was a propane depot that exploded in the north end of the city. The blast was felt throughout the entire city. I live about 25km from where it happened and my mom felt it and got woken up by it. Any ways, they had to evacuate a 1.6KM radius around the blast zone because there were 2 rail car propane tanks still left, not exploded with fires under them. Each container held about 22 thousand L of liquid propane. They didnt blow thank god, but the 401 (buisiest highway in canada) was closed down for about a 5KM stretch for at least 24 hours. The area around the blast is still being quarentined because of asbestos contamination in the air. But now there are at least 4 class action law suits against the company who hasnt been safety inspected since it re-opened in 2005. But yea...the explosion was so big that it could be seen from Niagra-On-The Lake..almost 100km away..or 60 miles for any one using imperial. Any ways...to give u an idea of how big this was...take a look at the pics and videos...
Best view of the explosion...look for the shock wave The crazy thing is...only 3 people died..1 employee of the propane place, a fire fighter died due to health related problems (not because of the fire or smoke inhalation), and another resident just dropped dead after returning to his house b4 he was allowed, most likely due to the amount of asbestos in the air. definitely looks about like a nuke Thats what alot of people thought. My buddy was maybe 35 min driving distance from it down by lake ontario and he said that he saw this glow coming off the top of the buildings for a few min after hearing what he though was "thunder", then when he saw the big big cloud he thought it was a nuke and was gonna go find shelter. |

man if I saw that in the sky near here, I would definitely think someone had dropped a bomb. I think that would've scared the holy hell out of me! Glad more people didn't get hurt. Test is gonna come in the long term though, because of asbestos exposure. Bad times.

I kept hearing about that in the news I just never got to see it. I am happy a lot of people have video-cameras. -------------------- (\__/) (='.'=) This is bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your (")_(") signature to help him gain world domination. |

Test is gonna come in the long term though, because of asbestos exposure. Bad times. no body is going to waste a bomb on Oregon. Or even Canada for that matter. There would be nothing to gain or accomplish from bombing either one of you two. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of life, but it could have been alot worse. How did they manage to set off the tanks in the first place? Cigarette breaks?
