To you guys with the 225/45/17, why do you like it as opposed to the 215/45/17? I have the Scion TC wheels, and I'm wondering if it's worth the extra money to get the 225's. What's the advantage of these as opposed to the 215's? I know the bigger tires will cost more, and I'm trying to save as much money as possible at this point. wider and slightly taller tires. the width for getting good traction and handling, the taller tire for better ride quality and less of a chance of bending your new rims... -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

Sounds like a plan then.
I'll be going with the Sumitomo HTR Z III tires, 225/45/17. I get them at my work for $350 a set, with road hazard and lifetime balance. EDIT: Also, can anyone show me up close pictures of that tire size on their car? I want to see if clearance would be an issue for me, as I'm lowered 1.5" all around. I had 215/45 r 17 but they were stretched across an 8 inch wheel, the 225 is just right width wise... I have noticed more stability in cornering and reduced road noise.

it should be fine, make sure you get a tire with a stiffer sidewall though or you could end up with a little roll...

This is good to know because I've got 17s too and have been trying to figure out what a good width would be (7.5" wheel I think though). The road noise is KILLER for me right now, not to mention my 205/45r17 (there now I'm on topic) tires basically just SUCK anyhow. What tires do you have/from where/cost? I was lowered on Tein S-techs with no problems. but, sumitomo's? all I need to say is you get what you pay for. I had Dunlop Direzza DZ101's. still a pretty inexpensive tire, but are still a really good tire from a good name brand. another good tire around that price range that I was considering is the BF goodrich G-force sports. I've never heard a bad thing about them from all the people that I've talked to that have had them. QUOTE (GotToyota) Mine are 17x7, will this be an issue? one time at my work we mounted some 245/40/17's onto 17x7 wheels for a brand new '08 WRX. Not only was it incredibly difficult to get that tire to air up, it looked like total crap! the tire hung out past the edge of the rim by a good 3/4 of an inch. which is what the other guy meant by "a little roll". but a 225/45/17 will fit on a 17x7 no problem, it might look a little wide for the wheel, but not too bad. it would look just right on a 7.5 inch wheel, and is the minimum recommended width for an 8 inch wheel. if you want a stiff tire get some bridgestone potenza's -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

I have Falken fk452's I had Falken 512's loved em both... bought at Americas Tire in Tanasbourne because they had the best price... The 512's are now the 912's and I have a set on my wifes xB, the good thing about the 512's and 912's is they still come with a warranty... |

And you don't know Sumitomos, do you? The HTR Z III ranks #1 in it's class. Here's a link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=93 So are you saying the 225 is a good or bad choice? EDIT: What do you guys recommend as far as tire pressure goes? anybody know if I can manage to fit 215/65-16 in my wheel wells? just curious, its 27" diameter for those who are interested...stock size is 24.46" diameter
edit: I guess I could just take the radius of that and measure it against the distance between my hub and lower strut mount huh? maybe I'll try that This post has been edited by schmooot: Nov 2, 2009 - 2:08 PM -------------------- ST205 Crew represent

A 215/55/16 would be really close at 25.3". gl -------------------- Darin H. |
