Fram / Quaker State / Motomaster (Canadian Tire)

What's available for my car at auto parts:

Which oil filter will reko choose:

Toyotas will last over 300 000 KM with deer piss as oil, I don't really think it matter much anyway in our puny 135 HP engines.

I think I will use Mobil 1 for my next oil change which happens to be Tomorrow. However, I am going to have the same problem as reko I predict. It boils down to either motomaster or fram. (Mountain Dew or Crab Juice)

The great oil debate indeed.

What kind of oil is the best to use has been a topic of heated discussion for years... probably since the beginning of cars, actually (maybe earlier). There are so many people who SWEAR by one brand or another, and will even go on and on about studies and lab tests and personal experiences about how this oil is better than that oil and so on. It's worse than discussing which religion is the best one!

The real truth of the matter is that you can put the cheapest, bottom of the barrel oil in your car, drive it like you stole it, and never have a problem. IF. If, you change it regularly. Unlike what brand of oil you're using, how often you change your oil really DOES matter. Change it regularly and keep it clean, and your engine will run great for years to come. Spending a ton of money on some new super-oil might make you feel better, but your engine doesn't give a rat's ass. It just wants oil that's clean smile.gif

I think this guy here put it best:

I agree with most of that, but I wouldn't say bottom of the barrel oil is a good idea. I was getting ready to start my swap so I used some recycled oil that smelled like axle grease when I poured it into my 5SFE... less than 50 miles later it spun a bearing... my 3SGTE will get none of that.

Okay, not BOTTOM of the barrel biggrin.gif

In all seriousness, I run NAPA oil in just about everything with great success.

from my experience.

If you change your oil frequently and consistently, it doesn't matter what oil you use or the filter.

i wanna switch to synthetic oil for my 94 gt. i have castrol gtx 10w-30 and a fram filter in it now. i though about royal purple and castrol sytec. i heard that castrol syntec isn't the best synthetic oil and i also heard that royal purple isn't good if your car has over 90,000 or so miles. so i just wanted to hear what people have to say. my friend, who has a 2000 gts said that mobile 1 and an oem filter is what people recommend for his car. so what is the best synthetic oil and filter for a 6gc?

I use Royal Purple 5w-30, and my car has 154,000 mile; no problems at all

been using valvoline full synthetic 5w30

good stuff - i use there Synpower in 0w - 40 in all me motors. i used to use mobil 1 but our local trade counter doesnt stock it and large motor factors charge to much. looking at £40+ for the Mobil whereas i get Valvoline for £25. i changed to valvoline about 5 years ago and havent looked back. as for filters - like others have said dont use fram. over here i use blueprint filters - exact same as genuine toyota ones but half the price. never had a problem with any blueprint part.

for higher mileage engines i've heard the "maxlife" oil Valvoline comes recommended but i have no personel experience of it - i have no probs in a 3s-fe i have which runs on Synpower and that has 110k miles on the clock.
