What scares me is how do you put on 40K in 3years? hey guys, time for a little bit of an update, and a few notes to add.
first, a little backstory. i never really covered installing the turbo coolant lines, for 2 reasons. #1, when i originally installed the turbo setup, i wasnt quite sure exactly what i was gonna do, untill sunday morning, when just about everything was installed, partly because i had 2 different ideas on how i could do it. the first idea, was to just put T's into the throttle body coolant lines, like everyone had previously had done. the other, was to T into the oil cooler lines, because of how i had the oil filter relocated with the oil cooler over by the drivers headlight, not really mounted. i ended up going with the 2nd idea, running around between pep boys, and home depot for fittings and Ts to adapt the diffrent size lines together. it ended up being a pretty hacked up bunch of hose, and to "protect" it, i bought some "aluminum tape" that is normally made for duct work ect from home depot, and wrapped the lines that ran under and behind the turbo with it. it was crappy, to say the least, but it worked, and at the time i said to the wifey, "if it lasts a year, thats cool, i'll figure out somthing much better in the mean time, and we'll pull the turbo next year and rework it then." fast forward 3 years. LMAO. a couple weeks ago, the wifey pulls into the gas station right by the house, and notices a puddle under the car when she comes out. drives home, ( it didnt overheat at all) and notices it dripping under the car. i get home from work, see the 3ft round puddle under the car, and begin the inspection. it was pretty easy to tell it was coolant, and once i got under the hood, it looked to be coming from somewhere under the turbo (i recently installed a stock 3sgte heatsheild) so, i automaticly figured the coolant lines that i had made 3 yrs ago finally started leaking. hehe. we got the turbo off, and found the lines intact, but definetly seeping from the joints. a pic of the "frankenlines" from the coolant bypass lines on the block, to the relocated oil cooler.NOTE: this pic represents how NOT to do this..lol the white caps are where i tapped in for the turbo coolant lines. a close up of what happens after 3 years behind a super hot turbo (these lines were all wrapped with that home depot aluminum tape) not exactly bulletproof. so, i replaced those lines, with -10an rubber hose from summit, and bought some DEI heat sheild to go over them, and the oil lines i also removed the battery tray, and finally mounted the oil filter relocation where the overflow bottle was attached. you can kinda see the coolant lines in this pic. this time for the turbo coolant lines, i decided to eliminate the lines going to the throttle body, and use them to feed the turbo. i used 3/8" fuel hose, although i think somthing a tiny bit smaller would be better. (prolly ~9mm) the 2 lines that feed the throttle body come from 2 locations. one comes out the back of the waterneck on the drivers side of the motor, the other comes off the back of the coolant bypass lines, that run along the drivers side of the block here are 2 pics showing theyre locations: the waterneck outlet the bypass line location (under and behind the distributor, closer to the firewall) you'll have to kind of loop the hose around, so that it dont kink, and attach them to the turbo: once that was all set, i buttoned it all back up, and had jenn fire it back up, and lo and behold, it STILL leaked!!!!!!! turns out, for some reason, the front coolant jacket gasket (the one that just has a cover plate on it) decided to start leaking, and with the heatsheild in place, i couldnt see it coming out and running down under the turbo! a new gasket sealed it back up, and all it well again! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I ask all this cause I'll be doing this on D-Man's car sometime later this year and the coolant source was the biggest PITA on my old setup [You think you got Frankenlines? I'm not even gonna describe mine - we will not be doing it that way for his car]. The purpose of the lines running to the TB is to warm up the incoming air, especially during the winter. The downside is during the winter the car may idle a bit rich at first until fully warmed up. It's really not an issue if you turbo because you want cold air going in a all times. If you'ed want to do this on an n/a car I'd say don't waste your time, the gain would be useless. -------------------- |

would these work for the 5sfte LINK technically yes. x2 I had one and it work ok but it gets really ugly looking once it gets hot...and it is prone to cracks and such. I ended up switching to the stock 3sgte manifold.
