i wouldnt advise using a straight nose vice grips
use the ones that are more like butt nose pliers, like the following. tap the head of the bolt with a hammar, this will aid the "cracking" of the bolt. also get some of that can freeze sh!t, duno if you guys have it over there, its a loctite product its a preasure pack can that sprays out has at -30 deg c or something, spray it on the bolt head immediatly before you try to undo it. Making metals colder (below 0 c) shrinks them, making it easier again. conversly if you like get some gas (oxy acet) onto the box itself to heat it up (dont heat the bolt head) obviously heating expands the metal around the bolt head. If your not experienced with gas i dont advise. -------------------- ST205 Group A Rallye GT-Four, #61 of 77............600hp GT3582r

dont heat an aluminum transmission with a torch.
a set of craftsman bolt outs or something similar will work just fine. get a new drain plug and gasket from the dealer. -------------------- |

get a "stud extractor kit". drill into the bolt, tap in splined extractor, slip the slider on and spanner off.
saved me a few times - excellant piece of kit! This post has been edited by AE102: Sep 7, 2008 - 1:01 PM |

get a "stud extractor kit". drill into the bolt, tap in splined extractor, slip the slider on and spanner off. saved me a few times - excellant piece of kit! not neaded, the bolt out will grab onto it and get it out. that way risks breaking off a bit of hardened steel inside the plug, now you have a hole in your drain plug with a piece of hardened steel inside of it that makes drilling it any further nearly impossible. and now its leaking because of the hole in it...and you have metal shavings inside the trans. only drill a drain plug as a LAST resort. -------------------- |

so vice grips didn't work out at all. i don't really wanna drill it either. i guess i'm gonna take it to the shop... unless there are any other ideas. bolt out was too small. only up to 19 mm. the tranny plug is 24mm.
