First off yes i did search but could need find concreate answers on everything. I learned today that my front right cv boot has been torn for probably awhile. Tirekingdom quoated me 199.00 for the axle. (i was already in there about a tire). I am going to my mechanic to get it done. My question is what should i excpect as far as pricing? The Right front axle and cv boot needs to be replaced.

Don't worry about the cv boot if the axle is bad. Just replace the whole assembly. You can get an entire half shaft reman. that is for about $85 after core. Why won't you replace it yourself?

I can do it in less time
rebuilding an axle sucks, it's easier just to get a new one and replace it. athorn, go to autozone and order a new axle. Replace your axle with the new one and bring your old one back for the core charge. You can do it. you need 14mm (carrier bracket), 17mm (ball joint), 30mm (axle nut) and a jack/stands. Loosen the axle nut with the car on the ground and don't forget to take your wheel off. -------------------- |

changing the carrier bearing adds time too.
but if you can realistically do everything in 45 mins, then i'd be pretty impressed. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

sorry, I thought replacement axles come with the bearing.
I've changed my axles so many times it simple to me now. Actually I just rebuilt and changed out my pass side axle today - a MR2/all-trac hybrid for the e153. -------------------- |

Yep theirs a thread on this if they searched, I know I was the one who made that thread lol don't bring it to the toyota dealer when I got their they though my car was a integra.....yaj.....they CANNOT press the bearing out for you either they will only recommend a brand new OEM axel for $400. Edit: Remans do not come with the bearing so you will have to find a shop that does axel rebuilds to do it for you. i did my passenger side a few months ago.. changing the bearing carrier is pretty simple if you have a bearing press. lucky for me i have one in my garage now the fist time i did it (on a 1990 acura legend) with no bearing press and snap ring pliers it took me, my dad and my neighbor roughly 3 hours to get the damned bearing carrier swapped. we used a hammer, a pick and a screwdriver lol
