After putting well over 10,000 dollars in changes, mods, restoration, parts that are not even on the car or I replaced, etc., I have decided to sell my celica. It has made me satisfied over the past years, there is just so much potential with these cars, but with USDM versions not being able to back up the looks with speed i feel it outweighs its worth to change the motor. I will sell it for its blue book price no matter what I have put on it. I just think I will sway over to another car like another former celi member and instead go with the SC300. I think I will be able to satisfy both looks and power by getting what is so close to a supra, which I think the SC and celica are. It's a disappointment that after all the time, money, and labor I have put into it, I feel strongly about letting it go. I have not spent or done or cared much about it for months now. This is a sign that I may have lost interest. I do not enjoy driving it either, it feels just like a car now. Maybe not for others but this is it. Once I find a replacement, I will not turn back. I just wished I could have taken this car with me all the way till it rusted, but sadly not having a J Spec version or available parts or shipping issues is killing me to go further, like hitting a plateau.

i'm on the same boat as well... the FWD setup is 'really' the reason why i'm hesitating to do a swap.. i'm the slowest one of my friends rides..
but anyway hopefully you're needs are fulfilled after you get your SC or whatever you decide to get so you don't regret selling the celica. SCs are good looking cars with greater potential than the celi.. i just can't stand their tan/gray interior and finding a 5spd will be difficult. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

good luck! i suppose i'm number 4 in the same market. gotta worry about my daughter before i can continue the fortune i spend on this thing. Not to mention the hours. For now it'd be much better to find myself something newer that i can rely on, that's not going to randomly pop out caliper support brackets and immediately stop one wheel while i'm doing 75 on the freeway. Good luck to you, and enjoy what ever you find

the SC is easily changed to a manual from an automatic. the common supra 5spd or the more exotic Getrag 6spd. both are very simple but not too cheap.
im going to the AWD dark side with something newer probably around a 2005. good luck to the rest of ya. -------------------- 94' ST Coupe - 5sfe Motor swap and brake swap.

depressing to see many people go away. But do what you got to do. understandable
why are we only interested in speed. everywhere is posted 55MPH, the celi does that. i rather be a slow turtle in risk of extinction, than a fast locust, that you can see everywhere and need to be terminated. Sorry for the analogy. I agree celica bad for a daily driver, but its good for the occasional "I have never seen a car like that" Just my .02. Good luck tough. Unless i total my celi, im not selling it, period. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. I would love to have an sc300 or mr2 with a little more potential than the celi, but they just cost too much imo. GL with all of your guys' new rides. -------------------- |

To each his own.
I like having a fast car, and the speeds up here are 70mph in some places. But that is still a mute point... Take tufy for example (and im using him because most people im sure know who he is on 6gc). He has a GT4 that LOOKS AWESOME! But in the end hes killin most mildly modified cars on the track. Plus fast cars are just fun to drive. -------------------- 94' ST Coupe - 5sfe Motor swap and brake swap.

Like what someone told me, sometimes the magic just dies. No doubt the celica is one of the nicest cars to date even though its old. I think the USDM market or Toyota did not do the celica justice. My ultimate goal is to stick to Toyota. I am truly loyal to that. My friends can't believe I am selling it. I am the only one where I'm from thats set up like it. I turn a lot of heads because no one knew anything but the factory USDM model and not any JDM parts or potential. If an AWD opportunity came along for me with high chances of a successful swap, I'd stay but I know there is no one in my area confident, qualified, experienced, and all the other good things to know how to do it. I spent more than enough to buy parts to get a car to 12 seconds quarter mile, my friend spent only 8 grand. There is just so many things you can do with the celi but at the end, money is the most obvious driver not you.

can I just say that's the exact same reasoning that I'm going over to the dark side. the USDM celi, well, sux . It's a beautiful car and is very fun to drive but it's very limited. If I could get a beams ssIII or a gt4 in the states I would in a heartbeat and keep it for a while but that's just not an option.

Now take snaphotgt, going into a v6 is cool, engine made in us, parts in us. the only difference between celicas in japan and here is an engine. The answer is Swap, to a engine you can easily fix. I tought i would do a beams, but that engine is so rare, that im leaning to v6 from solara or camry, they are dime a dozen. Its a matter of being patient, and patient. IMO. Im not a F $ F guy, i just love to drive my car every day. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I see the reason behind wanting a non USDM Celica...I mean, they're more powerful as JDM or EDM versions, not to mention they have the looks that people want (clear sides, better tails). If I go back to Europe within a couple years, I think I'll look for a good condition 6th gen GT4 if I'm still attracted to Celicas.

here's the thing with swapping. It's not legal and I don't want to mess with it. Now if mine was a 94-95 that would be an option because they wouldn't need to check it. But it's not so I'm not going to think about it.
I also don't have the time or the money to do a swap like that. Don't get me wrong. I love the styling off the 6gc, inside and out. I just hate the fact that the motor in it is slow as hell and there really isn't any aftermarket for it at all. Yes I did buy a Honda but that was only part of the reason behind it. It was also a very smart financial move for me. If I can find a 94-95 celi within the next few years and the price is right I'll pick it up with the intention of a swap. I do love my celi but I hate her lack of Umph. This post has been edited by goferris: Oct 6, 2008 - 9:25 AM -------------------- |

I left the Celica to go to the dark side...several times lol. First one wasn't by choice, my Celi was totalled and I couldn't find another one so I went with a Mustang. Got sick of it FAST, so sold it and got a Prelude. Now the Prelude had the best of both worlds, but sucked with gas mileage so I got my 2nd Celica. Made more money, sold the Celi and got a WRX. Absolutely loved that car, but was bloody expensive to insure and got dookie gas mileage. While I had the WRX I got an SC300 like a few of you guys want. Great car, especially since it's in the Toyota family. Unfortunately it was an auto, and I sold it to make a quick profit (picked it up cheap).
Needless to say I'm back and now own 2 Celica's, one for me and one for my wife. They're just a perfect blend of good looks, handling, and reliability/gas mileage. They're definitely not fast, but they make a great DD (plus I can haul all kinds of stuff in my hatch). And I'm sure one of mine will see a 3sgte someday. GL to those searching for a different car, I hope you find what suits you. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

Just an update...decided to keep my celica. My lucks in finding a good condition SC has failed. Saw many that did not entice me at all. I've decided to add a full SS-III front end - COMPLETE. and all the parts are already ordered and in transit. Dr. Tweak, has also been helping me get parts to upgrade my transmission not to mention found me parts for a full manual conversion. Major thanks for that Doc. Also, getting full coilover suspension and upgrading my sound system at the end of it all. I've given myself some reason to stay even though the car is old. I'm putting down roughly 5,000 for all these parts rounding up my total to about 20,000 dollars since I've had my car. Originally I was talking to Malpaso and Azian with a gt-four front end swap but it seemed like I couldn't get the frame rails and crash bar to do a legit swap, not to mention shipping to my place is insane. Well thats my story, decided to stick around and keep going. For the rest of you, not sure how you feel about the new cars coming out this millenium but the 90's had the best of performance, styling, and reliability...and not to forget, jam packed with JDM goodies.

If you're not strapping for cash, can you keep it for a weekend car?
I'm back home in Washington for holidays and i'm going to buy me a new car, but i'm not going to get rid of my celica. since i'll have a daily driver, i'll be able to put more effort into the moding up the engine now. -------------------- "Remember, amateurs built the ark and professionals built the Titanic. Its been my weekend car all along if not less. Since I got it over 3.5 years ago, I've probably only put 3000 miles on it.

Mate, let me tell you something, this isnt to change your mind, but you guys in the states think the mighty gt-four is the holy grail, but you know what, after owning one for two years, im getting bored with it, i also lost interest in doing things to it, and the power seems not enough these days. No matter what car you get, the same feelings come along after a while!!! Thats life i guess!! -------------------- |

Glad you're keeping her...I feel you on the auto part, it's even worse coupled to a 7A-FE...but the handling and gas mileage are awesome. Good luck with the modding process. |
