my car is much quieter now and its very paddy, the floor, you can sleep on it . sorry no pics, at work. but i did it!

This weekend I'm definitely doing the backseat area, but I might have to consider doing under the carpet too.

WOW, that looks like ****loads of work. Nice job though.

I tried to do my own insulation improvement work last weekend, since my speakers rattle stuff in the doors. I pulled the panels off and more or less nothing is loose, there might be stuff in the doors themselves but I can't get to them without ripping off the moisture barrier and I don't wanna do that yet. Problem is, the moisture barrier vibrates with the speaker, causing this kind of crinkly noise that almost sounds like rattling, so I tried to tape it all down and improved on it a bit. Still annoying though.

Alright, so I finally got my celica done, and to be honest, it made a huge difference, but I think that doing the same work under the carpet would be 80% more effective. Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what I did.












The guy in the picture is my buddy Snoey. He was working on his '98 Civic EX, sick car, has a b16a2 imported from Japan that's pushing out 190-195hp N/A

Anyways, hope that helps some people. For those that notice, the front 8" speakers on both sides were blown, I replaced both of them, and am working on getting money for the rears.

Once I get some more time I plan to do the whole carpeted area as well. But, when I do that much work, I'll also be installing a 4 channel amp and re wiring some things, so it'll be a while before I get to it. Within the next couple of weeks, I plan on finishing up the trunk and rear seat sections.

Also, for those that are wondering, what I showed you was 2 full rolls of the frost king material. If you plan on doing any more then that, buy 3+. You barely need any for the doors, but it starts getting ridiculous once you start laying it down on bare metal.

I just got done putting foam padding in my door panels and under my carpet (front and back seats). I'm guessing I did something wrong, because the results are a little lackluster. Then again, my test drive lasted 3 minutes and one mile. I have yet to get it out on the highway and test it. Hopefully I'm wrong and it had made a difference, just not at 30 mph. I'll let you guys know.

EDIT: Never mind, I was cruising on the highway at 70 today, and it made a HUGE difference! It doesn't at lower speeds for some reason, but at highways speeds it made a definite dfference. I still have to do my rear quarter panels and trunk though.

razor7, I'm only seeing red x's.

This probably a really noob question ... so my 97 SX has factory sound deadening already ? I pulled my back seats out to remove dog hair out of the seats (total nightmare ) and noticed it wasn't bare metal i was looking at. Will I technically be able to pull off this carpet padding project if i were to stick it on top of the 'factory sound deadening' ?

Yes, you can stick it on top of the factory deadening.

I just finished up with adding some of my extra padding under the back seats as well as additional rolls in the rear speaker compartment, and another piece in the rear hatch (I already had a square under my carpet). I haven't taken a drive yet but I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Alright, initial impression is WOW! The rear is dead quiet now, and the mid section is a bit quieter. The problem area is the doors, as the most noise is still coming from that area, as well as the front fender area. One day I'll tackle putting some rubber undercoating in the wells to deaden sound.

I used this stuff about a week ago under the carpet alone


Using that under the carpet made a pretty good change.. still kinda loud but a lot quieter.
i need to get the door panels and quarter panels done when i get more money, and then i'll do the carpet foam.
HOPEFULLY that'll make the celica a luxury car, in terms of sound..

How much did a roll of that stuff cost you?

I paid US$17.04 + tax per roll at Home Depot

yeah it was around $14.00 without tax from home depot.
