Hey Guys,
Just like everyone else, I'm in love with angel eyes. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to buy a projector kit with angel eyes. After reading the How-To for the creation of Angel Eyes, a thought jumped into my mind. I recently bought new fans for my computer that come with CCFL tubes on the rear that light up with UV (though you can get them in different colors). Naturally, they run directly off of 12 volts, so no resistors are needed, and they're pre-cut to the right size.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. They come in 80mm and 120mm (about 3.15in and 4.7in) and from what I'm thinking would be the easiest mod to install.

Direct link to all sizes CCFL tubes with fans

and for the lazy among us, a picture.

Within those tubes, there are single tubes and double tubes (a 4.7" outside and a 1" inner). In theory, wouldn't that fit perfectly around the headlight as well? Of course, they would be wired to the ambers so that they turn on automatically.

So, before I open up my headlights and get to modding, I wanted to get your opinions. The only thing I'm worried about would be the tubes melting from too much heat. That should be easily rectified by moving them further out though.

Thanks,
-TC

D-man, I think he was referring to the 120mm ones which according to google is ~4.7 inches.

If you check the How To section, there's a link as to how to make angel eyes to begin with. I took a look at the ad, but it's essentially the exact same material and process that the person who did the write up used (except they used clear tape to get the full circle).

For the rest of ya, I'm really considering doing this. First I'm going to buy spare headlights and give it a shot on those. I've only got the standard glass lens covers, so I'm not sure if they would show up well or not :-(. Let me get another pay check under my belt, and I'll write up a whole How To for it. I keep looking at it, and it just seems easier and easier to do... If anyone has spare high beams that they don't need, PM me with a price (including shipping) and we can work it out.

What do you guys think? My celica's red, so I'm going between white, red, and UV (heh, purple angel eyes FTW). Anyone have a specific preference they'd like to see?

Haha, word.

That's why I'm hoping these will be even simpler. Granted, the original write up on how to make them was simple enough (and I already have all of the parts necessary) but if this can just be a direct "open, screw in, run wire, connect wire, solder wire, close, turn on" procedure, then I'm all for it.

The cathodes will bend a little bit, and can bounce around inside of the tubes without breaking. I wouldn't worry about them breaking too much, I had the long 12" cathodes on the bottom of my 4runner for close to 2 years before I sold it, and they still worked. Off roading with underglow is just silly :-P

I'm in talks with Remy about getting his old housings off of him. I'd be doing a retrofit projectors on the outsides, and putting clear lenses on all of them. I just had my appendix out the other day, so I'm still trying to get enough money and strength to get started. Don't worry, I'm still working towards it laugh.gif
