My 5sfe head is shot I currently have 188,+++ on my engine so I am getting another 5sfe with about 85,000 to replace it. I I have about as much time as I have millions of $ none basically. So my point is I want to estimate how much time it would take for me to do it, compared to dropping it off to a shop. My wife thinks it would be better for me to do it to save money along with painting crap in the house installing this an that building a patio and working at my regular job. Then she says well sell it an get a new care thats when we had a falling out lol.

Dude, chicks always wanna just get new cars rolleyes.gif WTF...

If it's just going to be a swap from one to the same engine... as you said a 5s to another 5s, Then goto HIlow or NAPA or someplace, and rent an engine hoist; If you have eveything ready to go and only remove the minimal requirements, you could have it done in a day. (about 8-10 hrs) as a first time swaper. Now this is IF you have everything set-up and ready to go. I've seen nissan's Ka24DE swaped in 5 hrs; and it's a similar setup and size as ours. The hardest part will be lining up the trans gears. Otherwise, only remove what you must; and go ahead and spray a pressure washer while it's out to get a nice clean bay!! biggrin.gif you dont get that oppertunity everyday!

My first time I did an engine swap all by myself, it took me 6 hours to take the engine out of the car, and then another 12 hours getting the new engine all back in again.

If a new car is on the cards..... maybe a new Nissan GTR? smile.gif

Took me a weekend by myself. No experience, get yourself a repair manual, take pictures, label bolts, nuts, plugs, etc....

same engine shouldn't take longer than a day. If you have mechanical competence and a buddy to lend a hand with the right tools.

(i think we should have a 6gc competition, to see which coast/center of the us, in a teams of 4 can swap an identical motor the fastest)

Oh we'd definetly get our asses handed to us by the ECG rolleyes.gif I like to take my time, label everything, clean everything, paint everything, etc etc etc. Took me a day and a half to pull my motor doing things this way last time. Masking tape notes everywhere biggrin.gif

Probably so, but we'd leave them in awe when you, havoc and panda dead lifted the engine while me and Alex worked our scrony hands as fast as we do to line it all up and bolt everything down laugh.gif

But we'd loose in an overall time due to all the beer/smoke breaks we take rolleyes.gif Not to mention that sometimes (Especially when fenders are removed) random things get laid on my car that causes everyone to be distracted cwm13.gif
