Seriously, what is the most effective way to quit? I wish I could just get a shot that magically made me not want to smoke any more. After my uncle died this year of liver cancer, I promised my mom I wouldn't let her bury me and want to quit for her. Yet I think about the consequences, I know it is a matter of will power (not my strongest suit). Do those patches really work? The gum doesn't cut it for me. Anyways, I just thought I would ask.

My friend is trying to quit, he just started buying tabacco and rolling paper so he can make his own. He figures he'll be too lazy to make a whole 20 every few days, so that'll make it less tempting to just go through like 5-10 a day. Which I could actually see working for him b/c he's pretty lazy (no offense to him, but he even admits it). I know the first day, we were hanging out and for the 5hrs or so, he only had 2 which IS progress for him. But I don't know that that's the route for everyone though b/c it consists of smoking, still.

Nah that sounds like a good idea actually! Because I am lazy as HEEEEEEEEELL, unless it comes to my car. Honestly, if I was just a weekend smoker or smoked only when I drink, there would not be a problem. Even now, if I can do that, I wouldn't bother quitting and accept whatever the good Lord believes should come of me. Part of me wants to keep like this and I honestly pray hard that God or someone or some way at least allows me to out live my mother and she sees I am fine. After she passes, I will accept whatever hell on earth I deserve, I just don't want her to see me suffer and have to bury me after all she has done for me and took care of me as a child. Unfortunately the moments I find that I can quit, something always happens out of the blue that pulls me right back in. I have a very short temper and I admit that I am weak mentally. When my plans fail, they destroy things until a day of nothing to make plans again. I am horrible at that.

And for any of you other "believers" of whatever religion, if you do pray, is it too much to ask a mention that I can do this or earn favor to make it past my mother's life time? Even by a minute of her passing no matter how soon or long?

Thanks

Seriously, I know I am only 26, but the older you get, you really come to realize you are very mortal and very prone to those "Things" you hear about and closer to death.

I can't get addicted, so technically, I can't ever quit.

Seriously, nicotine has no effect on me. THC is another story. biggrin.gif

yeah try to go cold turkey, i think nicotine is only in you for so many days, and once you break that the cravings should be gone.

Thanks everyone. I guess I need to plan this whole thing out and go out of town for a good time and not smoke. This town makes me angry. Griff has an idea of how I feel about this town. I swear once I at least get my AA I am out! I need to find a new city or new state that I can get my BA and be happy.

I have a real short temper and I do not get into fights, I do not punch things, but it is hard going even one day without a smoke. 1 day I can do, but on day two, something always happens to piss me off.

Last year I went cold turkey for a month and then came right back. I went for a 2nd try since Feb of this year (my bday), and I haven't smoked since.

1. When I wake up in the morning, my chest doesn't feel congested anymore.
2. When I run, exercise, do labor work, I no longer have headaches.
3. My breathe smells better, no more cigarette smell.
4. Better oral hygiene.
5. MOST CHICKS HATE SMOKERS.

And the best part, you'd be amazed how people look at you. Smoker and non-smoker friends all gave me thumbs up for quitting. It just makes you feel good. Feels like an accomplishment. Something that I cherish everyday, and will try my best not to destroy it by going back.

Well, so far so good!

biggrin.gif

Edit: I had something that helped me quit the 2nd time, it is simply a pack of "Red Double Happiness" cigarette from China. It is 10x stronger than Camel and Marlboro Red, and 10x more bitter than Winston. After a pack of that ****, I kept having headaches and I felt like I was gonna die. I quitted. So... China actually made something that helped me..

cold turkey brother.

i don't get addicted for some reason..i can smoke 5 cigs a day or share a pack with a friend (stressed the hell out, out drinkin, etc) and be alright with nothing to smoke the next day.

maybe its cuz i'm more of an alcoholic? dunno, but i think that you should just try goin cold turkey. known many people who have done it that way and are now nonsmokers.

good luck man.

I too would be intrested in the best way to stop smoking... for someone with little to no will power.

Farthermore, my biggest problem is that i like smoking... It's fun... There used to be a little bar/club here in houston (called the hooka bar) and they' had oxygen-square'd coals that you could smoke (with fantastic flavors) does anyone know where to buy that stuff at? what else is LEGAL to smoke? W/o drug like properties rolleyes.gif (dont tell me silvia dorium)

Patches dont work. Neither does the gum. Although the patches do get you dizzy smile.gif

Hand rolling dosen't work either. I smoke about 2 packs a day, and i'm one LAZY bastard... and if i was too lazy to roll, i went to the store and bough packs laugh.gif

I'd like to know about this chineese stuff you've gotten. As for your list...

1. I'm a heavy boozer. My head and chest will always feel congested.
2. I do not run or excercise. The only manual labor i do is on a fork-lift.
3. Again, i'm a heavy boozer. my breath could usualy make a small child dizzy.
4. Alchol is a cleaning product. I also brush; about 3 times a day. (idk why, i ilke brushing my teeth. i've also got a bad-a T.brush)
5. Common law marrage. Chick + Me = Fistfights... frown.gif

I think it's because the filtering isn't very effective.... if you're used to United States' light cigs, try a pack of this I'm sure you will WANT to quit... tongue.gif

set a date and remember that date.

keep thinking its been ___ days since i quit.
keep thinking its been ___ weeks since i quit.

if you talk about it and tell people that you quit and tell others to quit saying "its been ___ months since you quit."

it helps
