Hey Guys, I'm a newb here so bear with me. Just bought a 96 celica St Hatchback. I am having a problem with the moonroof. It will only open like a 1/4 inch and then sometimes it wont even close....I have to keep messing with it to get it to shut...anyone else had this problem before?

Could be a few things. Ones that I can think of off the top of my head....motor could be going bad, wiring could be faulty, something could be jammed in the tracks, or if its like mine you really have to smash the button to get it to work. There are a few posts around here where some people had the same problem, do a search and see if that wont point you in the right direction.

I have the exact same problem, it worked when I first got it and after about two months, the same problem came up. I didn't bother to get it checked out, and all of a sudden it worked again. Now it stopped working again. What I've been told is that the gears could be slipping, or it's a bad motor as mentioned. Also, can you put up a pic of what it looks like, as far as the buttons and the sunroof from the interior? I've been told mine is a custom job, as ST's never came with sunroofs.

Check for the noise from the motor when you try to close/open it, if the motor still spins while the rest are stuck then the gears are slipping, if the motor doesnt spin then youve got a jam.

The first time I had the problem, it didn't spin and was thus jammed, I think...now, I think it does. The motor sounds like it's going, and I hear a faint clicking, like a gear is indeed spinning.
