My tip for you guys are to lower the number of smokes a day first. Than if possible go cold turkey. Its all mentally based thoughts and bad habits. I used to light a smoke every time i would sit inside my car. I started to take out any lighters or cigarettes to prevent the possibility of having a smoke. It actually worked for me. I stopped smoking in my car but was still smoking. The next step i took was just to keep my self constantly occupied when i was really craving a smoke. I would read books, play Wii, or work on something in my car and would not take any breaks. Yeah its hard, but eventually after a month or so of not smoking, even if you get suckered back into one smoke. The smoke feels awful, its like a self guilt trip.
Good luck! Also wouldn't you think it would be better to use your money on car parts than cigarettes, cause smoking can really add up. LOL -------------------- |

I had a heart attack at 28... I considered it a wake up call after smoking for 15 years... plus being strapped to a hospital bed for 4 days made it pretty easy... $#!T man! I am glad you are ok, that is brutal! Last year I went cold turkey for a month and then came right back. I went for a 2nd try since Feb of this year (my bday), and I haven't smoked since. 1. When I wake up in the morning, my chest doesn't feel congested anymore. 2. When I run, exercise, do labor work, I no longer have headaches. 3. My breathe smells better, no more cigarette smell. 4. Better oral hygiene. 5. MOST CHICKS HATE SMOKERS. And the best part, you'd be amazed how people look at you. Smoker and non-smoker friends all gave me thumbs up for quitting. It just makes you feel good. Feels like an accomplishment. Something that I cherish everyday, and will try my best not to destroy it by going back. Well, so far so good! Edit: I had something that helped me quit the 2nd time, it is simply a pack of "Red Double Happiness" cigarette from China. It is 10x stronger than Camel and Marlboro Red, and 10x more bitter than Winston. After a pack of that ****, I kept having headaches and I felt like I was gonna die. I quitted. So... China actually made something that helped me.. Hey, I know this is off topic, but I also wanted to tell you that your Sig is BAD@$$! I love it! Looks like something from a movie. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

Holy ****, 2 packs a day? Gaw damn Yeah that's a grip. For some reason, old ass ladys can smoke that much if not more. I dunno how they do it. For nicotine patches, the lowest is like 10 cigs a day, which is my status. I was told they have some for people who smoke every 30min!!!! What's wrong with marijuana? It's an illegal drug, and this is a family site. We do not condone illegal activities. and there is plenty wrong with marijuana but this is not the place to discuss it. discussion over. -------------------- |

October 22nd will be my 1 year since I quit smoking. I started smoking when I was 15, almost 16, and quit at 33 just about exactly 18 years after I started. That's a scary prospect, to be in my 30s and have smoked for half my life. I always associated people smoking half their lives to people who were older, like in their 50s at least.
Whatever method you use to quit smoking, the bottom line is really simple. You have to want it. Genuinely want it. If you do, you'll find a way that works for you and you'll quit. It's that simple. It sucks, and it's really hard. I was a complete basket case when I quit - and damn near homicidal for a good 3 weeks after quitting, and that was WITH the patch (which I actually recommend). I either cried all the time or really genuinely wanted to harm people. I had ridiculously ****ed up dreams from being on the patch, and yeah, I gained weight. You quit any stimulant and you're gonna gain weight. A year later I'm still just as determined to not pick it up again as a habit. I can honestly say that while I have smoked maybe 10 or so cigarettes in the last year, I haven't felt the actual "urge" to smoke except for once, when one of my dogs died. I have no desire whatsoever to smoke on any kind of regular basis. And I'm really really proud of myself for finally quitting. -------------------- |

nah, right now I'm working on becoming a transmission repair girl LOL I agree though on the motivational speaker part. Yeah, that is the biggest part I am worried about. "Gaining" the weight. I have gone up in weight, but I kinda like it on me now. Just don't want to gain anymore. Especially not in the stomach!! No way, not an ounce more or anything. I need to do this though. Maybe I guess I should not just work out but run more. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

QUOTE and i get "high" Its a cotine buzz that you get on your first few cigs or lips. Makes your head spin for about 15 mins pleasantly then you just get extremely euphoric. The main reason is started smoking. |
