well all that i have really heard is that the KYB gas struts or whatever are an epic failure. i've heard that these struts are no different then the stock one's. although the 6gc does have superior handling. coilovers are always a great way to go, but you only wanna spend $500 which is understandable. i would go to the parts database and look for reviews that members have posted.

KYB's are OE replacement so they won't offer too much more than stock, but they are the cheapest. If you want something better than that you could probably get a set of Bilstein's for under your budget. If you really want to go all out I've heard Koni's are really good but they are also the most $$$.

I got mine from importrp.com but I'm sure there are many other places out there.

Try Bllisteins. You can buy them at major auto stores. There the best ones around I heard if your willing to spend $100++ for just one. You might be able to buy all 4 for $5-600.

However, do not be fooled into thinking you only have to buy the shocks/struts.

There are all the associated parts which will need replacement at the same time: strut mounts (usually $50 per), spring seat insulators (6), boots (probably), bumpstops (possibly), anti-swaybar end links (very probable), etc.

KYB do uprated shocks too - the orange ones! i run them on my GXi - they are 25% stiffer than standard but you'll need springs to match. i've found them very reliable especially considering what they have to endure. the ride is terrible but 3 wheel cornering makes up for that! changing the mounts and insulators is a good idea and you will need new droplinks as previously stated as they tend to sieze unless they have been replaced in the past and copper grease was used. dont go for cheap links - blueprint all the way - same as Toyota ones but 1/3 of the price.

i just replaced my struts with KYB GR-2s and put Tien S-Techs on. cost under 500 bucks total since i did the work myself and makes a HUGE difference in handling. still has a pretty comfortable ride too.

Here's a package of KYB GR2's and shocks for $375 shipped.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-GR-2-SH...sspagenameZWDVW

or just the shocks by themselves, and you could get another set of springs if you don't like the above ones:

http://cgi.ebay.com/KYB-4-GR2-COMPLETE-STR...1QQcmdZViewItem

Yes that is a full set of sealed shocks.

Is vogtland springs + kyb gr2 shocks a good combination?

Koni's are about the only "REAL" upgrade shocks out there. But for what you'll spend on those in conjunction with new mounts if needed, you're in full pillow ball upper coil over territory. This is the issue I'm facing right now actually as I've got at least 2 shocks rattling to death over any bump.

That looks like a good package.
Nothing wrong wih KYB GR-2 shocks - I'd recoommended them as a budget replacement.
They do improve the ride/handling over stock.
(BTW Stock shocks are MacPherson)

Don't know much about the springs but if they are made in Germany they can't be bad.
(Lot of control/red tape/tests/etc in Germany - TUV)

At that price I'd go for them if I was on a budget.
