There might be a forum out there on this topic already but I'm gonna do my own. Seriously does anybody beside me and Stetsonaw know wut JDM truely is. I was takein a trip through cardomain.com and I couldn't believe how many USDM owners put JDM appeal as a rateing scale. I mean like one thing the Dodge Neon and the Mitsubishi Eclipse are not and never will be JDM. They were never made over here in Japan for crying out loud. So how u gonna brag about it. Wut is JDM honestly? If u have an idea please subscribe to this and tell me wut ur thoughts are on this Id really like to know. lol

well JDM is the japanese domestic market... so basically wouldn't it be anything that sells in japan? for 6gc's that would mean the curren, ss models and the gt-4 (bowdown.gif) haha. this would also include the parts that are made for those cars like the tom's lip, ss splitters, curren tails etc. USDM. would be like the 1.8 st and 2.2 gt... the stuff that sells here in america. it's not that hard, really, but i know what you mean. people are always like, "my car is so JDM," when really it's like not. hope that helps.

To be quite honest with you, I think that recently the whole term "JDM" has been taken far far away from its true meaning. From my understanding, JDM refers to items or entire vehicles that were produced FOR the Japanese, and therefore the item has a certain rarity to it, because it was only produced and intended for the market in Japan.

But the way it has been now, everybody thinks everything is JDM and its "cool," when in reality some of these things that are marketed and advertised as "JDM" are definitely NOT "JDM." The Dodge Neon you mentioned - I don't know how that can even have the slightest relation to anything Japanese, which is why its a perfect example of how JDM is just becoming something to say to be cool.

That's just my small idea of JDM anyway.

Yeah, well even the state siad Celica is JDM. To a point. I mean its not manufactered in the state it was imported there. It was converted left side drive to meet USDM requirements but it would still classify as JDM. The design was from Japan. Frod probe=USDM, Dodge Neon=USDM Mistubishi Eclipse is a big one but still=USDM. Mitsubishi branch is owned by Chrysler thus makeing it=USDM. I mean this owhole JDM scene is really strating to get annoying because the tuner world pretty much is on connecting JDM to Hondas. I live in Japan JDM is really that big of a thing. Not just cuz where Im at. I mean u could talk to and native out here and they will ask the same thing. WHY IS JDM SUCH A BIG DEAL?

Its not a big deal. We do the jdm gt-four front end not only because its sexy, but because its different. We do jdm conversions to be different. Who wants to roll around in a USDM vehicle when everyone drives a USDM vehicle. We want different, so we srive after being different and its either going custom or JDM YO

Well I didn't mean to condemn the term JDM completely as it seems I might have done. It has become quite viral to say "YOOOO THATS SO JDM DUDE!!!!!!" but there are also legitimate uses for JDM, like the GT-FOUR front end for instance, but even that may be tricky because GT-FOURS were also exported to the UK if i'm not mistaken.

The curren is JDM. There are people who can safely say this IS JDM but for the most part it has become a slang term that not many know the true meaning to.

Sorry if i seemed to have dissed JDM, not what I intended to do.. kindasad.gif

there are alot of people liek bccentaur who have put forth the money and time and effort and deserve to say this is JDM.

I have LSD, Super Strut Suspension, Twin Piston Calipers, 3S-GE power, Auto Climate control, Power sliding/heated wing mirrors, modern tail lights, square side indicator fenders, oem side skirts, 3 spoke bagless wheel, 16x7.5" alloys.... Standard features that came with my car. Woop Woop smile.gif

Seriously? JDM truely is a LHD car without any of those features... but has a GT-Four bumper and bonnet, and then the forward pushed rectangle indicators totally finish off the authentic JDMness with the toyotaCELICA badge on the left and GT on the right in the back, don't let that fool you cause the "-Four" is known to have weak glue and fall off wink.gif

Im not talkin about our cars. I thinkin ur gettin off the subject. The point of this topic was to shed the light on wut JDM truely is.

Here's my take. If ur car is made, or designed in Japan it is JDM. So if your car is Built in Japan but built to American standerds i.e. LSD. It is still JDM because it was Imported to the States from Japan. But if ur car was built by a company with a Japanese name or built by and American company i.e. Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GM, but it was built and designed in the states it is USDM.

I wanted to address this to those of u who know false JDM claimers. OH yeah, THE MISTUBISHI ECLIPSE IS NOT JDM!!!!!!

IT IS A GAY CAR THOUGH, LOL

apparently (to most cars that i've been seeing around lately), a car is jdm if it has one of these badges on the window:

I don't think it has anything to do with the manufacturer right? Isn't the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 a Japan only car, thus JDM? The Ford Falcon an Australia only car... an Australia-DM?

I donno...
