I am no mechanic, far from it. I like the look and have read reviews on the 6th gen celica and that is why I am interested in buying one.

The car I am looking at is a 1995 GT-S (Canadian) and has 322 000 km on the body and 80 000km on a replaced engine.

In Canada the Celica came in ST(1.8L) and GT(2.2L) models. The engine that was put in is a 2.0L JDM engine that the dealer says is from a '95 celica from Japan. Does this sound right? I mean could this cause problems since it isn't the exact same engine it was built to take?

Also, what repairs should I expect to have to make with a 6gen celica of this age and mileage?

THANKS!

Also, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me more about what engine this most likely is... is there only a few 2.0Ls that would work on a 94 Celica GT-s?

This is all I could find on the net.. no idea if its this one.. damn thats a big engine if it is the right one. Would prolly suck so much gas!

IIRC the 2.0 is a 3S-GE engine.

if it was taken from any celica after 94 I would assum it is the 3sge. Anything before that would be the 3sfe. How much are they selling it for? That will kind of give us an idea on what it really is.

98 Celica gt red- totaled deer
94 Celica st black DD (bad weather beater)- totaled deer
95 Celica gt silver- chassis sold
88 Celica All-Trac (Burned to a crisp)
94 Celica gt white (sold)

In need of a rust free chassis!!!!

Or 3S-FE

3S-GE has been in production since '86 - why would you think that?

OP - I think someone is messing with you but IDK. Can the dealer produce pics of the engine.

OOPS. Thanks for the correction, I forgot that they were produced before then. I was thinking celica specific?

Charging $3700 for it which is the high end of all the websites estimated dealer price for the car if those kms were on the original engine tongue.gif

I got a feeling it's an 86 celica engine. The dealer sounded like he was either guessing or lying. "huh.. oh its a 95 celica engine.. I think.."

Will such an old car require quite a bit of repairs just from its age and mileage?

No prob [sorry to do this] - Celicas were the first car produced with 3S-GE in '85 for the '86 year model [Sorry bro - not trying to show you up - just being accurate]

theres a vin tag on the front of every toyota engine right next to where it meets the transmission, that'll tell you the year of the engine (10th digit) and you can also determine what vehicle it came from which will tell you if its a 3sfe or 3sge for sure.

The dealer gave me the vin but it was suppose to be for the body. Perhaps he has the vin of both the body and the engine.

Too much worry buying such an old car I think Ill just buy a 2001 7th generation. It is barely anymore money than a 94 which is ridiculous. frown.gif

Why don't you try to find a lower mileage 6th gen that asn't had to be rebuilt yet? IDK about any high mileage 7th gens but that's just me.
