In a local junkyard, there is a 5th gen celica, i can't recall what trim level, but definitely not an alltrac. As far as I know, those never came with a 3sge, right? Well, there is one sitting in this vehicle. I was just wondering if anyone knew of this in a USDM 5th gen celica. The ECU and everything is there. If this did come with this car, what kind of HP does it make? Anyone seen this before?

No, it looks like a hooker put her acid vag on your hood. Acid vag = bigger problem than a few dings.

What were the trim levels for 5th gen in the US? I've seen many different versions of this car, The JDM GTS is 3S-GE, GTR is 3S-GE with 4WS, I've seen this car equipped with 2.2 and 3S-FE.

Ah, 135hp sucks. I always saw the 5sfe in the 5th gen so seeing a 3sge was unusual to me. oh well.

yea a friend has one with the 3sge, and since its an older version power wasn't as good as the one from the 6th gen but the car was still a good bit quicker than the 5sfe smile.gif

Cool, good to know nonetheless, i was thinking maybe it would have been a good candidate for rebuilding and swapping, but i think not now, lol. frown.gif When i saw it i was like huh, and i did some research but didnt find anything about it, so i thought it may have been swapped.

The 3SGE was never used in North American fifth-gen Celicas, or any Celica after 1989.

The fourth-gen Celica GTS used the 3SGE; it was the only Celica to feature the 3SGE in North America.

ST182 and ST202 were never sold in North America.

The fifth-gen Celica used the same 5SFE as the sixth-gen North American GT and GTS models (Canada received the GTS). It ran 130-135 HP, depending on revision. The 3SGE in the ST182 was 160 HP or better.

Easiest way to tell a 3S-GE is that it's a 4 inline cyl 1998cc motor with a two-part intake manifold (ACIS) curled over the top right above the spark plugs a couple mm higher than the top of the valve cover.

There is actually another 3S-GE motor (not used in Celicas though) which has TVIS, the intake manifold has 8 runners, 2 per cyl instead of 4 runners, one each. This TVIS motor is called 3S-GELU.

If it really is a GE engine you found, Why don't you just take the head and ECU? make a 2.2 litre GE engine.

The 3sge in the fifth gen has the same torque output as the one in the 6th gen, but it has 20-25 less HP. It was the previous model of the 3sge, the one in 4th gen celicas, that had 125hp.

To summarise:

4th gen celica: 125hp
5th gen celica: ~155hp
6th gen celica: 177hp, ~199 with BEAMS.
