Haha, you would be surprised at the amount of 15+ kids talking about how their dream car could kick blah blah blah's car's ass. I have been checking craigslist just to stay semi-savy. And yeah, i thought 8k was too much. Regarding the 3sgte, is it twin turbo charged? Because theres no way that I would get a single turbo engine. Turbos lag too much. But from waht I've seen, twin turbos greatly reduce that lag. Ok you are young so I'm gonna take it easy on you with this one. Twin Turbo is for 6cyl engines and up and even then most of those guys who race eventually upgrade to a larger single turbo [Google Supra single turbo conversion and get ready for retarded amounts of info]. 4cyl turbo cars use single turbos but most use more efficient low rpms turbos to minimize lag [From the factory - again most drag racers will upgrade to larger more power producing turbos that consequently have more lag but by that time you know how to keep your car in boost so it's really only an issue in 1st gear. And when the big turbo kicks in - you forget all about lag - trust me] The car you have chosen [The Celica] came with a CT-26 turbo in the older models and the CT-20b turbo in the 6th gen [Unfortunately not here]. All but the very oldest models use a twin entry Turbo. This turbo is specifically designed to spool almost instantly so lag is not an issue whatsoever on stock turbo. It's a ralley inspired car afterall. There is more info coming - BRB No turbo. WRONG! Oh boy are you wrong. But from waht I've seen, twin turbos greatly reduce that lag. Key-word is talking. You sir; are hear Learning the 3s-ge is a naturaly asperiated car. it has no turbo. the 3s-gte has a single turbo because there is not enough power to push two turbos. the 3s-gte did not ever come in a 6gc here in america. Only the JDM GT-Fours had them. the 5th gen's did have 3sgte's, and so did the 2-3rd gen MR2's. Twin turbo engines will be more likely to lagg than single turbo engines. 3s-gte's do not experience much lagg. If you want a twin turbo, you'd better do it on a V6 or a V8. Otherwise, you'll live the rest of your life in Boost lag. Damn D-Man - most impressive. This is why I never mind answering your questions - you always learn, remember and never ask the same question twice. And you're not afraid to do your homework and pass on the info to other guys like this who are new to the game.

But it is a single turbo? That is a picture of a 3sgte. Under that silver heat shield, there is ONE turbo. that is the only turbo on the 3sgte. (most) all 4 cylinder engines cannot handle multiple turbos due to the fact that you'd have to hit like 6000 rpm just to initiate boost. Unless it was 2 insanely small turbo's, but they'd blow out easily (due to the tiny bearing it'd have), and not have a very high maximum due to the fact they'd be so small. So it is one turbo. I correctly corrected myself. No - you said 3S-GE - that's non-turbo. 3S-GTE [Note the T for Turbo right in the engine code] has one dual entry Turbo. I lied, I read 3S-GE...single turbo. Why would you say that? I said that I thought he meant 3S-GE, not 3S-GTE. Therefore, me saying no turbo applied to me erroneously thinking 3S-GE. And then I corrected myself.

3s-ge performance engine, non turbo 3s-gte high performance single turbo This post has been edited by D-Man: Nov 12, 2008 - 5:25 PM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! I am 17 and my first car was a 72 Porsche 914. After 7 months of looking I finally found a 97 gt with 85,000 miles fully loaded for six grand. Just to let you know it is an expensive car to insure as well as the initial cost. It is 750 dollars every six months in my dads name so I can only imagine what it would be for me. Just keep looking and good luck.

My car wasn't that bad to insure, I think around 1300 a year? After good driver's discount and everything else.
Pics of that Porsche? Sick first car. |

Yeah you would think that since it is a Porsche that it is fast but the celica is quite a bit faster. However the Porsche handles like a dream. It is also running carbs right now. I will try and get some pics up soon.

I've heard people on this site get up to 450 000km out of there GT's engine and gearbox and even similar with the ST but Its all up to how its been looked after, if its been driven hard it will last a lot less but probably will still be a long time if serviced well.
Id personally stay below the 200 000km mark just because I wouldn't like getting a high km car from scratch, personally Id go with the GT as even they have a rep for not being a real fast car, they aren't slugs but just not fast compared to other cars in the class, they are comfortable to drive and pull well up hills and still pull well with weight in the car and very fun to drive. As for things that go wrong its just common things that happen on all older cars really, cv joints, oil leaks, water pump, radiator leaks etc etc. to turn it into a more fun car then its probably best to start with the suspension, upgraded shocks and springs, sway bars front and back, strut bars etc both engines that come stock aren't good to mod but early on its worth atleast doing intake as the sound is amazing haha, turbo isn't needed to have fun, even a 3sge non turbo still has a fair bit of power 160-200hp depending on which gen. |

You’re going to have no problem finding a 6Th gen Celica in the Bay Area, that’s for sure. The NorCal 6gc members seem to be lacking numbers, but all in all, I’ve seen a large amount of 6th gen celicas up here just ready for the picking. I see them driving around all the time, and their owners always want to get rid of them, but no one wants to buy them.
I read that you wanted a Twin-Turbo car, so from what I gathered you’re looking for something Fast. You’re only 15 and have no job yet, so money could be an issue. You might be looking in the wrong place for speed and cost. The Celica isn’t exactly the cheapest car to fix up, And there is very small aftermarket support for it. Ofcourse, practically everything you need to buy and need to know can be found on this site. Even after you begin to modify your Celica, if you don’t spend a lot of time researching and buying the right parts, your Celica is going to give you even more headache. If you like the 6th gen Celica, then definatly go for it. It’s probably not the best choice in terms of performance and affordability, but it’s a start. There are a few Bay Area members who have been around for years and are always willling to meet up if you ever want to learn more about the 6th generation Celicas and cars in general. -------------------- |
