I personally would use some air filter cleaner hat K&N sell they also have the oil to put back on after so the filter will keep working.

If you go to your local aftermarket car shop, dont know the names of the ones in the states you can buy the filter cleaner and the oil which have the instructions on them. its real easy to do.

yeah, any local autoparts store should have them. I picked up a K&N recharge kit last year and I think they're good for like 3 or 4 uses.

K&N recharge kit is definitely the way to go. Don't use just straight water, you'll need some sort of de-greasing agent to get all that soot out, which you'll then rinse with water. The K&N kit will have a safe de-greasing agent as well as the oil you spray on the filter once it's completely dry. The kit comes with instructions on how to do everything.
I can't believe you've been driving around with a dirty air filter for a year. Wow. -------------------- |
