As we are an international bunch of people who love our Celicas, I was wondering how you write 'Celica' in a different language.

To start off I found this link:

I am using an online translator for this, so it may be different, but I checked, and Dutch, German, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, and quite a few other languages are the same. Written differently but pronounced the same. Since I cheated, I'd like to hear from other people who actually speak the languages how it would be.

I only speak english and spanish, but celica would be the same for both. McDonnalds is McDonnalds rather it's in europe or japan, Africa or brazil. It dosen't matter. a name is the same in different languages. Just like your personal name is still the same, while it may be pronounced differently by people whom dont speak the same language as it (your name) came from, it's still intended to be the same.

I pronounce it differently in Dutch, but it's not like I can verbalize that online.

You speak Dutch? Neat!

I'm pretty fluent in English. I don't like to brag or anything, but I've been known to have a conversation or two in English. tongue.gif

Hard to do...it just has to do with a certain culture's dialect and how they form words, i.e. the letter I is pronounced in Dutch like the E in English...it's complicated.

I can break it down to say-lee-ka.

Pronounce is definitely different:

- for example directly from Japanese its: SERIKA
- I know in Germany and here in Czech Republic many people pronounce it as: CHELIKA
- I have heard also pronounce that sounds like "silly car" wink.gif so: SILIKA
- and finally (I believe the most spread) is: SELIKA

I hope you get my explanations biggrin.gif

note: see my avatar smile.gif that bold (katakana) text is Celica in Japanese wink.gif

Because different languages put different emphasis on different letters. And he probably thinks the same thing in reverse, Because he's not used to the "S-Sound" rolleyes.gif

Hi. There are several different Ce*-words with different pronounciation.

A few examples:

Cello ("Chello")
Cellolite, Cellophan, Celsius ("TZellophan", "TZelsius")

But I can't think of any Ce*-word with a prounounced "S".

Aber wenn dir eines einfällt, kannst du gerne eines Vorschlagen. biggrin.gif
