So i have started to notice that my clutch is starting to slip
I was wondering... When did you have to replace the original clutch in your celi? How long did you wait after you noticed it before you had it replaced? Not because you were doing a swap, but because it started to slip... -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

When it starts to slip, its time to replace, there really isn't a time frame. i do warn you though, when you buy the clutch make sure you hold on to the warranty! I had to replace a clutch three years ago, then had to replace it again two years later. i was able to get a full refund on it because i still had the receipt. also i think it was around $300 to clutch and the work. anyway good luck.

I had mine replaced at 110,000 miles. I am unsure if it was the first replacement.
As for the second question, just waited till it went out completely. It will slip more and more until it goes. x3 if you feel it increasingly starting to slip its time. Unfortunately it is quite an expensive / time consuming job because you must remove the front axle. -------------------- |

One day it worked, the next day it didn't. So I replaced it. I believe it had approximately 35k miles on it. Good ole Crap from China.
I hear that locally you can expect to pay around $500-$600 for parts/labor and that Clutch Doctors is the cheapest. It's approximately 8 hours of labor, so yeah, it's a real bitch to do. As for replacing it under warranty 2 years after it was installed, that's pretty amazing - IDK what clutch comes with a 2 year warranty but my Exedy OEM came with a 1 year/something-miles warranty. I think that's standard and the 2 year guy got lucky. But remember that you will void your warranty if you don't have your flywheel surfaced, so be sure you do that. -------------------- |

ya my toyota shop said it would be around that much, but i also need to replace my timing belt so im going to let my toyota shop do everything, rather than take it to the clutch doctors... and my brakes are squeaking ugh more money

Be sure to replace the water pump too when you get the T-belt done. It's like a 40 dollar part but the labor is almost the same as the t-belt, so typically they're replaced together.
Where do you go? I need someone reliable for any future stuff that I can't do myself. -------------------- |

i did my 94 GT at 188k. pulled the clutch off the flywheel and no joke the flywheel looked brand new. of all the clutches i have seen and changed this was the best looking one as far as even wear goes. the clutch started to slip and the same day i was pulling it apart, i wasnt gonna let the slipping clutch get to the rivets and dig into the flywheel.
my 97 ST was done at 159, currently at 186k miles. toyota parts are so cheap |

i'm still using the original clutch (from 94/95). it has only slipped once on me, that was because i had my 300+ lb cousin with me and we were going down a 1-lane hill at ~40 degrees and a van came outta nowhere and he couldn't back up so i was forced to reverse back up, and my clutch slipped in the process. otherwise, on WOT on a level road, it still holds. i've been babying my clutch since i got the car (no hard launches) but i know i'm gonna need to change it pretty soon though..

mine was original until 198,000.
and it never slipped until it completely went out by the way this was 3 days after i bought this car one moment it was fine, after the next stoplight it was gone |

So will the average clutch workshops order and use original Toyota parts or will they use similar compatible standard replacement clutches? Will they perform just as well do you think?

I doubt they'll use original Toyota parts, but a decent shop will use OEM quality parts. It really depends on the shop - some of them are cheap and will use cheap crap, but charge you the same. You kind of have to do your homework, and NEVER be afraid to ask what brand a particular part is. If it's not something you're happy with, let them know that you'd be more than happy to wait while they order the part that YOU want them to use. That way the work is still covered under their warranty. A lot of shops (most in my experience) will NOT guarantee the work if you supply your own parts.

Mine is still original at 192K This summer the pedal started to stick when it's depressed every once in a while, though... any clue what's going on there?

Ive added some 18'' wheels to my car and a week later,when I drive it like I have to give the car a lot of gas to get it moving.I thought that it was the wheels being too big.I have to get my car revd up to like 3-4 rpms just to get it to move.my friend said that its not the wheels its my clutch going bad,put I feel that I didnt have this problem until I put the wheels on.
