Hey, I have a custom exhaust w a borla xr-1 muffler, exhaust is 2.5". I'm just getting really irritated w the annoying vibration I'm hearing, but its primarily when I GET on it.. At first I thought it was the cables in my trunk for the hatch lever, to pop the trunk. So I've done what I can to tighten that up so it can't rattle, I'm still debating on wrapping it with some sort of padding so I know that it isn't what is rattling. But to me when driving it sounds like its either the muffler or possibly the heat shield in the back where the muffler is?? Does anyone have this problem or have they experienced this problem??? Any ideas as to what to do to fix the problem? Could it be something inside my muffler or just a crappy muffler?? I'm debating on just replacing the muffler but I don't really wanna spend another 100+ on a muffler, if it fixed the problem great but I don't have that at the moment to just buy a new muffler. I've also tightened my liscence plate so I know that it's not that either.. Any help would be much appreciated..
B.

Check the hangers, and the heat shields along the piping. Wear a glove and try gripping sections of the exhaust when it rattles, see if the rattle disappears at some point (if it does, you're close to the rattle).

I've come to the conclusion that it is the heat shield at the rear of the car by my muffler. I'm wondering tho what I can do to tighten that up or whatever?? I can't put anything in between it and the car to pad it cuz it would just burn up.. But I'm not sure how to bolt it to the car either?? I bent the heat shield away from the bottom of the car to see if that fixed it and it really did so I'm going to figure out a way to bolt it back to the top of the bottom of the car...

In all probability the bolts holding the heat shield have loosened, or the rubber pads in that area have degraded.

Pull the muffler out of the hangers and check the heat shield bolts.
