unless you really own an alltrac & work on it yourself, i don't feel you can comment on it honestly. i'm not a big fan of hear-say.
if you get one, make sure the body is free of rust & make sure it has had important maintenance taken care of on a regular basis.
you will hear a lot of people say they aren't reliable. if kept pretty much stock with regular maintenance, they are reliable -- the probs come when you add mods & kick up the boost on a motor that is 20+ yrs old then the reliability flies out the window.

as far as parts availability, some OEM parts are & have been discontinued by Toyota. what do you expect though? there were never that many alltracs made (165 or 185) so Toyota has no interest in continuing to make a part they may sell 10-20 units per year.
since the 3sgte was available in MKII MR2's engine parts are no problem, just unique alltrac parts become a bit more challenging - be ready to be persistent.

in conclusion, you better be willing ready & able to work on the car in any & all kinds of weather & you better have plenty of tools & a BGB.

an alltrac can be quick, but you better have some deep pockets to get it there.
as much as i love the car, there are plenty of newer cars that are a lot faster & take a lot less to get there.
if you're willing to make the commitment, good for you, but it's not for the faint of heart ... i can say that honestly.

to the guy above that said ST185's are oogly, i'd be willing to bet money you've never seen a real one in person else you wouldn't say that wink.gif

lol dude...st185's are hidious...at least the 4th gen had some nice lines to it..i would pick a 165 over a 185 anyday...plus i would want a 1st gen 3s..i think the body style of the 185 is just weid looking...i dunno...6th gens rule everything though

First, i'm a girl so nice try.
Second, saying you want a 1st gen 3sgte shows just how much you know about the motor.
Third, everyone's tastes are different - Thank God for that.

OP, glad to hear you're in it for the long haul with an alltrac - good luck in your search.

Thank you.

So what are you leaning towards man?

Crap, now Darth is a chick? All these people I am sure are dudes end up being female........ That is crazy....

Anyways, I got more reading to do. For future reference, if I forget to READ when I reply to something, then excuse me. I like to take short breaks as this next week is Finals and for math I have 112 subjects to cover in the next 3 days. So forgive me for not wanting to read pages just to say something. I think I have that right anyways, as a human.

To be honest I am leaning towards the 98-01 subaru 2.5RS. I know its not on the list, but its only practical for MN.

Good choice as well. I wanted to do something with one of those but they are just too hard for me to find around these parts. If you do decide to go that route, good luck. That 2.5RS just isn't meant for me. So you were seeking something AWD pretty much huh? I want that, but I guess since we don't get snow I can go with something else. I am sure AWD cars would be easier to find out there than there.
