If you want a "painted" look and a durable finish, I can hook you up with the guy who did the lights on my Vette. It's a gel coat that gets sanded and polished, essentially the same treatment as paint. Looks FANTASTIC, and he can lay it as thin or as dark as you want. here's what it looks like:

The tail lights and side markers used to be red and the reverse lights (each side of plate) were white.

I paid $215 to have the complete 9 piece set done (four tail lights, one high mount tail light, reverse light panel, side markers, front turn signals). For just the tail lights I couldn't see him charging more than a hundred bucks. I'll PM you the contact information for the guy. You'd have to ship him your lights, but you shoudl be able to find a donor set to use for the interim if htat's your only car. Also, he does a VERY quick turnaround and you could probably do a 4 day turnaround over a weekend.

yea i used the VHT nightshade stuff....wors pretty good..only thing i would recomend is 1) do it in a garage if you can or somewhere somewhat warm because it likes to run....2) light and EVEN coats work the best...if you spray too much in one area then it will be darker...you cant really tell untill you put it back on and theres a big black spot on the light....other then that it works great, looks awesome and its not that expensive...i was thinking about doing my high beams like a light shade of black and see how it would look...i dunno we'll see

Cool so did you sand them and just spray the red lenses?

I want to do my headlights too. Except i was thinking about getting the GTS covers off andysautosport.com. Think they'd look good? i kinda wish they had actually put up a pick of them on a Celica...or the ones for a Celica. lol

i was talkin about this with my buddy today about doing my highs black...i like the VHt stuff because you can make it as dark as you want...you want it black? put 6 or 7 coats on and the light will still shine through...i was thinking about 2 maybe 3 coats on the highs would look pretty good...and maybe even do like an eyelid type desigh for the lows...who knows? im gonna mess around with it though and see what i like...i would just buy the vht stuff and do it yourself...worse comes to worse you wet sand it off and re spray your light with a freash coat of clear and make them look brand new again

it doesnt take 2 days to do...it'll prolly take an hour tops if you just stay on it..i was just farting around and figured i would do it...plus im lazy so i just did one one day and one today...yea i actually wet snaded mine to get all the scratches out of my taillights before i sprayed the tint over it...you can use 1000, 1200, or 2000 grit sandpaper....and when your done you can also spray a coat of clear over top of the tint....i was shining a flashlight through my taillight and it goes through just fine

i would just clean them really well and then spray the tint on them...if you dont think they are glossy enough after using the tint then you can go and get a spray can of clear coat...sold at pep boys, autozone, napa, whatever....spray a light even coat of clear over them and they will look real good
