my 94 has factory sound deadening. felt under the carpet, a foot of felt by the rear speakers, and a vinyl/felt lining on the firewall....
it all sucks though aha

update! today a lot was done.
foil/foam was put into the doors, rear panel, quarter panels(f&r), and floor.
carpet padding was added behind every interior piece and under the carpets.
spray glued padding was added to door panels, under cabin carpet, under hatch carpet, behind trim pieces around rear speakers, and trim pieces in thte hatch, including the hatch it self.

the drive:

City driving 0-40 was partially quieter, worth the cost of the foil.
highway driving 45-70 was substantially quieter. well worth the money/time put in.
i had to talk to myself to remind and compare how quiet it really was.

what still needs work:
1. Roof..
2. A-pillars
3. firewall
4. HVAC

This car is my daily, and i have another celica for project/fun driving, so i want this to be the most comfortable, yet kinda sporty, ride.

x2. It's definitely worth the money you can spend on this.

right so that was the foil you could buy that was self adhesive? i guess the better question would be, what order did you do this in? foil and foam wise?

i did the foil/foam duct insulation first, then the carpet padding ontop

the foil/foam is one piece. its adhesive/foam/foil for the duck insulation.
i put this directly on the sheet metal
then i put the carpet padding on the trim pieces and carpet directly w/ spray on trim adhesive

I wish oi had a camera to take some pictures frown.gif
next time i have my interior out ill borrow a cam and load up some pics

I did everything but my headliner and firewall. Those are next some point in the next week.

You did not have any issues getting the headliner back on with a layer of frost king? I was slightly worried that it would not want to mount back up.

x2. I want to do the headliner, but I'm afraid of fitment (plus if I'm removing it, I might as well find one in black to replace it with). If anyone has done this, please chime in.

i've done it. yes it is quite hard to get the visors to mount right w/ the layer of frost king, but with enough force, they go in. thats the only fitment issue i had afterwards. its nice to have a silent interior smile.gif

noted, then I may just not put a layer underneath those two small areas.

I put the interior back in and put the car to the test on the highway. I must say that it's almost silent now. I will still have some slight noise though due to the lowering and my 17's. I would say that it's VERY MUCH worth the $40. I will be using what I have left to put under my carpet whenever I get brave enough to pull it out.

-Matt

Did you mainly do this just to reduce road noise, or did you also have unwated vibrations in the doors? I have a lot of little vibrations that are coming from the inside door panel and I'm wondering if this would help reduce them.

the vibration from inside the door can be fixed by tighting the glass. take your door panel off and use the service holes to tighten the nuts that hold the glass, that will take care of most of the noise or all of it, depending if you have anything else lose in the door area.

I did mine today, with a stock sun roof. It is moot, I didn't really notice too much of a change.

Thanks, I probably won't bother then. Toyota makes some noisy sunroofs. I wonder how much quieter my car would be without it, but I'd rather have it.
