Thats the problem with our cars. Our crank position sensor is in the distributor and megasquirt has trouble reading it.
You need to convert to coil packs and get a crank trigger with wheel.

that does not matter. it all depends on the signal. is it the same 4-1 and 1-1 sensors that are in the 4afe 7afe? basically if you have a 4-1 sensor in your distributor you can use it like a points signal. the megasquirt just needs to be set up to accept a 5v signal and fire the coil directly. but the 95 and up 4afe and some 7afe have a crank mounted sensor i have one and im not going to use it just yet.

looks good. coming along! yeah crank and cam sensors are both in the distro, sounds like like you have it all figured out so far.

There is more to it then that.
Our distributor has some noise issues with megasquirt.

Some people claim the issue can be fixed by adding vr signal conditioners, but I've yet to see someone who is actually running on the stock distributor without problems.
Easiest way is to get your own trigger wheel and upgrade to ford coil packs.

check out msextra forums theres a couple guys with the 4afe distributor running on megasquirt. theres even a guy with a bt 20v that has a 4afe distributor in it. its not that hard to get rid of the signal noise. when i get home tonight ill try to dig up some links. but if you go to the diy autotune page and look up the 4age vast page its all done the same way as the 4a-7afe.

by the way your car looks awesome, and i didnt get a chance to look at the mr2 link because i didnt have time to register this mourning.

Let us know how it works out. If you manage to get it running, I'll buy a kit asap and set it up on my car.

will do. it will be a couple weeks till i get my pistons and i can put it together.

also. my 4afe block has a crank mounted 34-1 wheel and sensor if i have issue's with the 4-1 sensor signal than ill re-mod the board and use this sensor as an input.
