I thought you of all people would be smart enough to see how hes right in pointing out the comparisons between the movies and mythology/religion.
The Matrix especially took a lot of things from mythology/religion for its plot. The 3 movies were pretty much about the birth, life, and death of a savior (Neo). -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

The title of the thread is a joke, to poke fun at the fact that here we have a priest, giving us detailed analysis of a batman movie and how its writers took things from religion/mythology to make the plot deep on so many levels. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect a priest to analyze a batman movie and do it so well.
The point he made about how violence just feeds on violence was dead on. This is clearly stated in the scene where batman beats up the joker, and the joker just feeds off of that instead of fighting back. Thats just brilliant in how that scene was written with that idea in mind. Or how he mentions that neo has to surrender himself by choosing to take the pill without knowing what might happen. Thats also taken from religion and how people are told that they must blindly believe. Brilliant script writing. They could have had him just put on a space ship or something to get "saved", but they used things from religion/mythology to make it deeper. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Totally Agree with the thread/Friar, as well as how interesting it was. Thanks, I had to post this on myspace because I liked it. I even subscribed to this guy.
![]() Religion/Spirituality will always be the center of worldly ideals one way or another, regardless of who approves or not. I promise you, people are more moved by such. Anything with religious tones are recognized in so many levels, and usually quite successful amongst believers and non-believers a like. Even scary movies, those that deal with demons are far more of interest than simple ghosts, murderers, etc... The fear factor is greater in such because in the back of minds, they wonder "What if this stuff is true?" People always shut down when they hear someone say "jesus" or "religion". The point is not whether there is a god or not. Its to realize that religion is something that exists in the world, and it can have an influence on movies, books, etc... Same thing with mythology. I would think it was cool if they took something from the Greek mythology and applied those things into a movies plot to give it some depth. Thats not to say that I believe there was a Greek god Zeus, just that I know people have written about such things. Check out this guys analysis of No Country For Old Men too. I love the idea he brings up about how the main bad guy is not really a bad guy, but more like he just represents death itself by killing good and bad people in the same way, and how in the end he doesn't get caught or killed, because there really is no way to cheat death. I thought that was a great description of that character, because when I first watched it I just wrote that character off as just being crazy and nothing more. That is interesting, I will check that out. I just subscribed to him because I like when someone can introduce new things and new ways of thinking that have never occurred to me before. I am a religious person, but I am not a good example for others to follow (Or maybe I am just humble, I dunno). But yeah, it would be nice to have those great stories of old brought into our present. The whole purpose of me wanting to be a writer was to make epic films based off of religious doctrine (things not of the Bible). Not because I think they are true or not, but because they are interesting stories. My goal is not to make people believers, but to bring stories and topics to them. Everyone should be free to believe what they want, although I do believe Religion is the greatest influence of all. Because of Religion, people choose to be who they are. They decide if they want to be for or against it, they decide if they like these ideals. Much like Philosophies. Anyways, I do not want to to turn this into a religious debate, because I promised myself I would never engage in one again. There is no point in it. You argue for the sake of winning for yourself, and nothing comes of it. Then there is arguing for the sake of others, and there is good reason within that. Effort will be recognized. If I got involved, I know what kind of person I am and it would be for the sake of "trying to prove right" and for the fact I am content with my beliefs, and with that, my life extended and for the better, I choose not to. I myself am not religious. I just think its great when you can find deeper meaning behind a book or a movie. It just shows that there was a lot of though put into every small thing that happened.

LOL @ jist
Father makes parallels between the Matrix (didn't watch the others) and Christianism, saying that the pill/choice given to Neo, Morpheus as representative and leader of surviving human race, and Neo being the "savior" all represent Christianity, and other religions, to some extent. |

You can apply this sorta thing to almost anything, and it's because religion has so many stories and what not so that it can appeal to so many different people. It's marketing. -------------------- |
