k ive been away for a while looking at the 240 forums.
in here i never heard of illegal engines...or even yet how bad CA enforcement is on mods.
Reading 240sx forums, ive gained an insight on how much of a pain in the ass it is to have a nice tuned car without getting it impounded or reffed.

anyways back to the point, test drove a s14 sr20det today and wow it was pure balls...300 RWHP
the car looks stock/black coated exhaust/no tint/
as long as i drive normal, and keep my foot on clutch and coast in neutral around cops, wont i be fine and not have any probable cause for them to pop my hood?

asking 6gc for an unbias view on running illegal engines under the hood in socal
2 points:it will be my daily driver 20 mile commute and ill be driving slow in the slow lane.

exactly, or if it is even a Japanese car and a young guy is driving it, they will make you pop it. I know a guy who has a Honda civic all fixed up, was driving normal, had his engine ref'd, but not the other mods on it. Cop asked him to pop it for no reason, and impounded it. He got it out, but still, what a hassle it was for him.

are u serious?damn
why dont i ever get anything from cops then if im driving a celica and im a young guy and it looks more "ricy" then the 240sx?

also researching, but never came to a complete conclusion as the 240 guys bicker over each other whos right and whos not,
dont cops need probable cause to pop the hood or a search warrant to search?

i really want the 300hp beast!

No probable cause needed, as to them they are not searching your car, they are inspecting the engine.
You also have no place owning a 300hp car... Mr. i threw my automatic in reverse on the highway.

Then don't do it. Knowing you, your car would get impounded. LOL Just saying dude, don't get mad, because of your other topics. You should just stick with your car. I believe things happen for a reason. If your celica looks rice, then I guess mine looks rice too. I have only gotten pulled over once and that was for my license plate on my dash. Now with the GT4 front, I just keep it in the car next to the passenger seat in case I get pulled over, I just say it fell off.

I had a cop follow me across town but didn't pull me over with the way it looks now, because when I had gotten pulled over I didn't have an exhaust, GT4 spoiler, or front at the time. People expect me to get pulled over for how my car looks, but I even was caught doing 80MPH in the Merging lane and cut off a Sheriff on the freeway and still didn't get pulled over. So watch yourself. They tend to go after the cars that are more popular for being modified. I have also noticed if I wear aviator glasses, for some reason they never look at me twice. LOL I know that doesn't help, but in some way it almost seems like it, because without, then I do get that second look. But I don't look like a trouble maker, and I don't really do anything crazy so....

The 240 is a very popular car to get pulled over in SoCal. Reason being is that because it's so popular there that cops already know what is illegal when they look under the hood. 240 is a great car, but a 300hp daily driver car that you claim you're never going to speed or drive fast in is a complete waste of a car. I'm not saying that you should speed, but you made it a point to say "you'll be driving slow in the slow lane". I do know that you were just saying that to make yourself seem more responsible, but to be honest, we all know you are going to speed or doing something that will get you pulled over and that's what this thread is all about. The question shouldn't be if they will pop your hood or not, the question should be what you're going to do when they pop your hood. I'm actually assuming that you've already sped in the car, since you say that you've test drove it, and say that it's "pure balls".

haha great advice man. yeah of course im gonna speed when no ones around but in public i will be in slow lane!
i dont see how 240sxes get targeted and celicas dont....
i also dont see many hondas getting pulled over except at race spots
i kind of feel sad i cant drive this car when its just a hobby and its not like im murdering or doing drugs.
love the s14 kouki chassis like none other, and need a car with more power....for at least 3 more years until i move to japan out of socal

Unfortunately it is like Murdering or Doing drugs. You know why? Because idiots don't have the self control it takes to keep that $#!T off the streets and put others in danger. That's why. They do burn outs in a busy parking lot full of people wanting to order fast food.

That is who ruined it for you. Try to correct that and start a crew that is KNOWN to encourage to take it off the streets and into the track. Have mutual funds for parts/group buys, etc... And when someone is caught street racing and the likes, drop them without no funds returned to them and such.

That is the least I think one can do, at least it is something. That is what I am trying to start with "Track Star (Racing)". To try my best to correct this stuff. So far not a soul disagrees, I mean it is something ya know?

Anyways, good luck in whatever you decide to do. Although knowing this from experience, I don't think you will manage to have the responsibility for such power until you started from rock bottom and slowly built your way up, rather than just purchase a fast car.

It is that kind of patience that puts man and car together as one, and knowing that if you lose that car you lose a part of yourself. If that car hurts someone, it is like it is done by your hands. When the car isn't well, it makes your sick. And so on. Then as you age, maturity will settle in and you will have a more appreciation for life, as well as the laws of the road.

Then you will see that real skill it put on a track, and the streets is just a matter of luck until it has ran out with the ultimate price paid for. You will begin to realize that showing off for other men becomes senseless, and the only time you realize getting noticed with worth something is when the rewards will coexist with your goals within your passion, and not just trying to glorify yourself for just a short moment. Those people on the street do not care about you, your safety, or your parts that you wear out from showing off. So why put on a show for them?

Once you have came to understand all this and put in work, only then will you be ready. At least I believe so.

Buy it, keep it for track and tune it to your heart's content.

Keep the daily celi, make it a beauty and make others envious cuz they don't have a celica that looks awesome and probably will never have.

But that's just my opinion.

11k for that? i would pay maybe half......not being a cheapskate either...just thinking that it could be spent on something better than some overplayed icon of the 90's with some deep dish rims, misaligned hood, and loose bumper. oh and a 10 disc changer for all your minidiscs.....that's right, minidiscs

if you don't want to risk being pulled over and have a cop pop your hood, move to another state. Cause i know if i had a 300hp 240 id drive it balls out every once in awhile. and id prolly wrap it around a tree learning to drift, haha. but we all know your gonna speed, everyone does it especially if you have a car that has alot of balls.
