yea i raced my friends stock 91 non-turbo mr2 and i got killed. i have to say that i didnt believe weight made that much of a difference, considering we both have a 5s-fe.

2nd gen mr2's weigh more than 6th gen celicas

mr2's can get much better launches, and when you have the same engine, but slightly more weight(200lbs) in the car with the traction/launch advantage, the car with the better traction will win, given equal drivers

my friend had an NA mr2 and he would always kill me in that car. mid engine and rwd make all the difference in the world.

when he got on the gas, it would put you in your seat. i always thought "damn, didnt know a 5sfe could ever do that".

less than 2 feet between you and all the interworkings of the internal combustion engine... i loved just sitting there listening to all the pumps vacuums and of course the turbo just working all in harmony... its mezmorizing

Yea it's so amazing. Every weekend he goes out drifting and doing burnouts in empty lots and stuff. A lot of fun RWD.

Also, he's debating over a 3s-gte swap or the 5s-fe turbo. He doesn't want to do the swap because of all the time, extra parts, and electrical work it will take.

I havent been able to do a burn out or lay down tread, not that I want to, it always just grips and takes off. But I dont like wasting my tires so I dont really try biggrin.gif

And Id recommend just turboing the 5sfe, it'll cost just as much money, less if he can do the fabrication himself. And atleast he knows what hes working with, the import world is full of snakes, you never know what your going to recieve when you order somethinig, especially an engine thats sat in a junk yard and then made its way half way around the world. unless he gets a usdm 3sgte then that might be an idea. Just remember that turbo engines go through alot and most arent taken care of. You should see the list of parts the previous owner of my car had to get.

mr2's are also quicker because they get the power to the wheels better than the celica does.

i think the drivetrain loss is about the same, the difference is in the launch, with all the weight centered over the rear axles, the car just sticks and goes, it makes a bigger difference than you would think.
