Thanks, I think I will chose 235/225/215 - 40 - R17". This will fill nicely?
Do I need a lowering after these wheels? Or is it the same? |

Wow, you ain't lying. They do look like 18s. I just bought today some 17" Drag DR-13 wheels for daily driving so I can send my Enkei RS-6s to the machine shop to repair the curb damages and dents so I can send them for powdercoating. I see that the tire looks pretty wide. I'm going to test them now to see if they fit. If not, I will be a very pissed man. Got the guy to let them go for $350 with some worn-off tires that need replacement. I think it was a good price. They have a few scuffs but look decent from far away.

im glad this thread came about! ive been considering ditching my 215 40 r 17 khumo's they are too thin! it seems like the consensus here is 225-235 40or 45... seems to help reduce that wheel gap. can more people post pics of their 225's and 235's maybe?

I have Tein S-Tech springs and KYB GR-2 shocks. With the Michelin Pilot Primacy tires (225/45/ZR17) my rims brought, there is no gap in the front. The tire is tucked in a finger height inside the wheel well. In the rear, there's a two finger height gap (my fingers are thin as heck).

in this case 17s is the best IMO. not too big not too small either just right, and you can put beffy tires if you want, which im trying to go for, but im still debating on wether to get the rpf from enkei or 5 zigen fno1rc, im looking forward on getting a set when i get my tax money, i just ordered my lowering springs about an hour ago and im excited to install them already...

Found a picture of a Celica with the rims I am planning to buy:
(Front/Rear: 8.0" x 18" + 225/40/18 Tyres) Will this rub? And is the car lowered on the picture? And: What do you think? I have a black car too.. |

I have a black car too.. On a black car, these rims look really good, but I think 18" rims are almost too big. It looks like the car is lowered a little bit and with these rims you should avoid any chuckhole, if not, you might get a little problem. -------------------- All people are born unique, but most die as copies because they go through life doing what everybody else is doing, for example building a show-off car that looks like one that already exists. |

i understand your point. i'm just saying that toyota put 15's and 14's on the 6gc. so that car is built for that size rim. you can go bigger, but on cars especially for rims what is comes stock is what is meant to be. oil and rims are two examples. when you go with bigger rims the speedometer is screwed up and heaviness is also a factor. i won't go much bigger then 16's or 17's if you want performance. but if you them want show go bigger. Now I'm sort of confused; I swear I've seen 18's that are lighter and perform better than some 17's. I imagine if you want the 18's that perform (are really light weight) you're either sacrificing style, or you're spending a butt-load of cash on them... lol. -------------------- |

I'm in the process of buying some lighweight 17" wheels to replace the stock 16" on my GT4.
Theres lots of pot holes near me and I don't want a bumpy ride or to damage the suspension, so I wondered what the largest profile tyre is I'd get away with? Prefferably I'd like 225/55/17. What do you guys think, would this be ok or would it rub? Also I was wondering if you compared a 205 tyre to a 225 tyre....when inflated is it likely that the 205 would look smaller side on from the 225 and in a way giving you a little extra profile? Thanks Ian |
