Little back ground : I've been in US for ~ 5 years and a couple months, when I came here I knew 0 English, so all this time I've been learning, improving little by little and now I can order a complete meal at McDonald's with no problem lol.
me and my brother collect Jordan Sneakers and we think is time to part with some of them as the market price is reasonable and we need more space to store some more. on our search online for price quotes and such, I have stumble across this web page, and honestly some of the stuff I just kind of figure out my logic, some other I just completely ignore.

Uhhh.... that was probably the most f***ed up thing I've ever read. No, actually, I take that back. That wasn't that messed up. I'm sure D-Man will find something far more messed up immediately hahahaha. But that's still pretty hard to read, even if you are fluent in English. I mean, obviously I speak English, but there are some things that people say that I wonder why we even bother.

Honestly would you expect anything different from a site called "kicksonfire"?

English is my second language as well, however I've been in this country for a long time now.
I have to say that for only being here for five years your writing skills are a million times better then most people who were born here. That link you posted is a really extreme example, however sometimes I'm really shocked when I read some of the things people write on this site, knowing full well they were born here and should have no problems typing out a few sentences in English.

You can pretty much blame all of this on the American school system. I went to first grade in Poland, and when I got here they were shocked that I was pretty much at a 4th grade level. I even knew how to write in cursive, while the rest of the kids were trying to learn how to print and only allowed to use a pencil. They thought I was some kind of child prodigy.

I believe how we write is very closely related to how we talk.

So if we slur and use "street lingo" in our every day speech it affects how we talk, spell and form sentences.

That's a great way to think, Prejudice is a great tool.

Size 9 or 10 I don't have. I always buy them on my size, when I started I didn't plan on selling them, but now after some short math, between me and my brother we have close to 11 K worth of shoes, and my brother needs room for all his school stuff, so we're gonna sell the ones we like the least ( hard to decide lol )



and Art I understand perfectly what you say. I still have a lot to learn about proper grammar and such, but in the short time I've been learning, I've been able to learn good enough English to get a decent job that requires good writing skills. as Hanyo said our writing is very close to how we talk, but I don't write with an accent lol.

Apparently I'm fluent in "hobo.

But if you guys think kicksonfire was bad about language, I had to get on a forum for one of my friends last night... A Suzuki forum. Not for the bikes. For the cars. Oh... my.... god....... First of all, not one person knew what they were talking about. Soldering new LED's into the gauge cluster??? Fail. I had to read it 20 times to figure out that that is what he meant. They only speak one language on there, and I'm pretty sure it's some variation of English, but I'm not positive. Looks like there might have been a little Caveman in there. My favorite thread was the "What have you beat in your Suzuki?" thread. People were racing their Reno's and Forenza's against Preludes and Integras... And claiming to win.

one of my personal sayings is "unfortunately, many of us rate human intelligence by the ability to properly speak the language native to a country" because language is one of the first things a person learns growing up. without that first piece of the puzzle, communication is limited. of course, mastery is not expected but the more fluent you become, the more successful you appear (and vice versa).

ebonics and other types of slang talk is unprofessional to me because it shows incompetence to learn basic proper english, and speaking it just to shortcut words (which i think is completely unneccessary because english is pretty easy[try mandarin if you want a challenge]) simply shows that a person is lazy (which unsurprisingly proves to be true) , although i do use ghetto talk from time to time amongst friends (whom clearly know im just playing around), i try to speak clearly and in complete sentences when it comes to my job and/or conversations with others.

A lot of forums are terrible. This site is the exception. I love how everyone on here knows how to write properly.

Tell me about it Luke. My friend/neighbor joined StreetHondas.com His lil brother hates on Hondas but he was like "It's better than 6gc". In a way and with his youth, I can see why he would think that. But this site looks more professional and is a LOT more organized. Plus we do speak well and treat each other well. I guess it is safe to say we have class. Anyway, I checked out the site after he said that and I am glad our site isn't like that.


Oh yeah! Plus we got CHAT! I dunno any other forum site that has real time chat.
