I have a 42'' Panasonic Viera plasma and it's 1080p. Doesn't mean yours is but mine is.
My video is HDMI and my audio is optical, but your receiver will need to have optical also. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Dec 27, 2008 - 8:30 PM -------------------- |

Pretty sure it's 1080i, but I'll see when the cable comes in. My receiver sadly does not have an optical input, and only one HDMI out. But my Viera is the older model with a grey frame, not the newer ones with a black finish.

Oh ok - your receiver is probably HDMI pass-through which should really just be called "HDMI switching" because that's all it is, a switch. I felt this was pointless because the audio isn't even being taken from there and it was a waste.

^^ that's ghey~ ^^
My audio goes thru my HDMI and it sounds fantastic! I suppose the digital audio is a good option when you've got some ghey "switching" though. -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! No, digital optical isn't even an option, I don't have one of those inputs either. So sprynt, what are you saying exactly? I have no other choice but to just run it through like I am right now correct?

^^ that's ghey~ ^^ My audio goes thru my HDMI and it sounds fantastic! I suppose the digital audio is a good option when you've got some ghey "switching" though. If you have true HDMI True-HD sound your receiver cost upwards of $500. If you don't have optical, and only HDMI pass through you're going to end up using component (red/yellow/white), except you won't be using the yellow which is video, you'll be using HDMI. On the PS3 you'll want to set the video to HDMI and the audio to component on the audio options. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Dec 29, 2008 - 10:48 AM -------------------- |

lol, no i've just got some TV that i spent a little less than 4 grand on that has everything built in I've got my audio out right on it; no reciever, no external crap. I spent alot of money on that TV due to it's capabilities. Just plug, And PLAY!!

Came just about half an hour ago...plugged it in, works perfectly. Best 5 bucks I've spent in a while. Imagine my surprise when it loads and gives me a maximum resolution of 1080p! GTA IV looks great, the overall image is the same, but the details that weren't there before are AMAZING. Draw distance looks improved as well...trying out GHWT and COD4 in a second.

I actually just found a button that shows me the resolution of the current screen...also found out that I'm playing games in 720p.
When I first set it up, it gave me a max resolution of 1080p. The XMB is displayed at 1080p, but games (COD4 and GTA IV are 1080p compatible) are displayed only at 720p. Guitar Hero World Tour tops out at 720p, so could it have changed the maximum resolution to manually set to 720p? Anyway, I need to know how to change it back, or set it to 1080p permanently. |

Bringing up this thread again because I just got my hdmi cable last night, hooked it up to my ps3, and it automatically set my settings to 1080p. Thing is, my tv is only supposed to be capable of 720p. Does anyone know why it's automatically setting it to 1080p? Shouldn't it recognize what the tv is capable of or do I obviosuly have to manually go in and set it to 720p. My thought is that because the hdmi cable is capable of 1080p, the ps3 thinks that's what my tv can handle. ??

Cables don't have a capability, they're just cables.
Don't know why your PS3 thinks your TV can do 1080p, the TV probably is downconverting it to 1080i. When you plug it in it should automatically read the highest possible resolution - and then display that. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Mar 12, 2009 - 8:14 AM -------------------- |

Yea, that's what I am confused about, it automatically detected 1080p as my highest possible resolution. But why would the tv downconvert to 1080i when they are totally opposite display types, wouldnt it down convert to 720?

What model Panasonic TV do you have? Is it a 720p model perhaps?

It's a Philips 32" LCD. It is 720p, that's why I'm confused, I was wondering if anyone else with a 720p tv had this issue where the ps3 put the settings on 1080p automatically.
