One of my friends repainted his Taurus himself and it looked crappy. I'd leave it to the professionals too.

yea, It'll definately not look good if you do it your self, you'd need all kinds of equipment and then practice. but a word of caution, don't get the maaco ambassador.

This link may be of use, info on techniques, equipment needed etc.
DIY compressors-spray painting advice
To do a pro job you'll need the right kit which includes a compressor, spray gun, airline etc and an undercover place to do it.
It IS possible, but takes a bit of practice to get good at it.

Don't go to Maaco PERIOD. They would have screwed me if I went there. A lot of people I know that have gotten cars painted there have had paint peel off after a month, and the paint looks like ass. The best way to get your car painted? Know someone who does it...thats the cheapest way. If you don't know anyone, just take it to a locally reputable shop.

They don't mean any harm or disrespect I'm sure. It's just that it takes a lot of practice to master, and it's not a basic how-to like installing indiglo gauges or making clear corners. It's more of an art that has to be aquired through experience and trial and error. I think that the guy who painted my car said that he painted 10 or so cars before he finally started getting pretty good at it, so if you keep at it and learn more and paint lots of cars I think you'll get it. smile.gif If you'd like, I can give you some tips that I got from him and my friend who also has painted cars and is painting his own this spring, and post them in these forums. Just let me know. smile.gif
