Hi guys! I'm planning to replace my head gasket..
Should I get the Metal or the Graphite? I've found a graphite head gasket set on Ebay Are there any more parts I need replacing it? thanks -------------------- God made man....

I don't trust ebay gaskets you don't want to cheap out on the head gasket heres the part number for 5sfe metal head gasket 11115-74120 don't forget to get new head bolts too.

This is the part number for the oem head bolts you need 10 of them btw, make sure you do your research and get all the necessary gaskets and such good luck.

many companies make full gasket kits for it i would buy one of them and replace all gaskets and o-rings
why r u replacing the head if your rebuilding the head i would suggest doing the bottom side other wise you will hav problems later on down the road |

Get a gasket kit from Napa or some place like that and also get a dealer 98+ 5sfe headgasket. Make sure its 98+ or it wont be metal. Use the gasket kit for everything else besides the headgasket.

Too much pressure in the radiator. Pushes all the coolant out to the reservoir. I dont know much about rebuild stuff but how does rebuild work and how does it helps? Yeah that was i was planning. It would be too much if i order it from Toyota. -------------------- God made man....

get a head gasket from a 99 camry. its a metal gasket. you dont need new washers but head bolts should be replaced.

wait you need to diagnose the problem before you start tearing things apart.
so u say its over heating and pushing the fluid bak into the res. all that sounds like is a new rad. your rad. is prob. just clogged/damaged from old age, causing the fluid being pushed from the engine in to the rad. and when it gets stopped in the rad.it hits the overflow and returns to the res. causing your over heating. |

It pushes it out but it never returns inside. I always have a loss of coolant. I just flushed the radiator not too long ago. If it was burning off in the cylinders you would be smokin like hell driving down the road. And if it's hitting the overflow I also have to agree with replacing the radiator. If it was just leaking out the head gasket then you would have coolant in the overflow and radiator just as normal. I vote for replace the radiator. Also check the thermostat, if it's stuck closed then you have one very easy cheap fix. My guess is the head has nothing to do with the problem. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

well if your car was turbo i would say it was just the head gasket, this happened to my first 3s, and my rx7(although rotarty=coolant seal on the compression side), all the water was being pushed out the block/radiator/ and it would then come out through the over flow......

I am having this same problem now on my 1992 celica GT. It has a new radiator as of a year ago, new water pump, timing belt, thermostat, etc.
I dont have any smoke from the exhaust, and i smelled the exhaust and it smells normal. The oil is clean, the coolant is clean. The fan works. It isnt leaking anywhere on the engine. It pulls fine through all RPM's. It just drips from the overflow and therefore the radiator becomes low on coolant. It doesnt have any signs of a failing head gasket though, so I have no clue what the problem is..... Can anyone help? |

I might have missed it but did you replace you radiator cap. Simple things can cause big problems

Yes, I replaced it a couple days ago..
I know the thermostat is newer, because I was there when the previous owner replaced it. But I also know when he replaced the radiator, for some reason he also put stop leak in. Why he did it is beyond me. I would say maybe the thermostat is sticking shut, but the lower hose feels like it is getting warm, although it isnt as warm as the top. Could this cause it? I have the metal head gasket, bolts, thermostat, thermostat gasket on the way from 1sttoyotaparts.com as well as a gasket kit for all other gaskets. I just wanted to have it just in case, but I want to make sure of what my problem is before I rip into it... |

Sometimes you have air in your system, feel you lower radiator hose if it gets hot, bleed the radiator coolant also.
