Congrads Jim. Thats some nice power.

Congrads Jim. Thats some nice power. Thanks man, I am very pleased. QUOTE Everyone who thought differently didn't know, and were just repeating what they had heard, and it becomes telephone, and after enough people start repeating it, false statements become facts, and then after a while it seems to be etched in stone, and never bothered with again.....Same goes for this situation, there WAS no real life experiences with a GEN3 and boost levels beyond 17psi with WI on 93 octane. Dont take this the wrong way, but keep in mind that a few of us have been around the block for a while now. If we have an opinion on something, it is based on fact, and not just hearsay. Cant wait to see the run files! No, I respect solid proven Information. I dont care whether it comes from someone who has been around forever, or if it comes from Someone who just joined the site. Solid Proven information doesnt change no matter the amount of years this person has been "around" And this is a perfect example. I can look up the same limited Information as you concerning the GEN3. And all the failures I saw were without WI.......and Some had GREAT success at 20psi without WI (most are around 2005). It was kind of hit or miss there. And that is where the "rumor" that you cant push these turbos past 18psi. So like I said ealier....Rumor turned into "fact" and then became etched in stone, and repeated for years to come. I knew anything Below 25psi of Boost pressure is safe for the GEN3 pistons.......So the only problem with boosting above 18psi is Heat, causing Knock. So I drew my own conclusion that knock must be around 20psi without WI, so I didnt see any reason why I couldnt do 20psi safely with WI. So I had a plan, I had my Det cans, and all was done on the dyno....And came away with new found PROOF (not hear say) proving that the GEN3 is VERY capable of making safe power above 20psi with WI. So Like I said, I respect and follow PROVEN results, and dont bother listening to hear say, and try not to repeat it. awesome results jim...im glad you pulled that much power out of it...now crank it up to 25psi and lay down 360..hahahha...enjoy it man..it must be a blast to drive around OMFG yes, its a blast. --------------------

how much was the cost as an overall project? The cost of the swap with the Clip, Motor, Eurou lip, LSD trans, Hood, bumper, performance parts, Maintance parts, paint, etc came out to around 5000. Then I sold the old motor, the AWD trans the old non-LSD, Extra mounts, shifter cables ETC. which totaled about 2000. So all in all, it was about 3000 to upgrade to a GEN3 3sgte with LSD E153, and GT4 coversion. All in all, it was DEFFINITLY worth it. --------------------

Jim.... ATS, Hux, Califcarm, etc.. already did what you did. You're acting like you broke some new ground or did something thats never been done before. It has.
What we (or I) were saying is to becareful, because that much boost on pump gas is a bad idea with the ct20b. Anyway, I dont want to start a huge debate here. So congrants and lets just leave it at that. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

What we (or I) were saying is to becareful, because that much boost on pump gas is a bad idea with the ct20b. Anyway, I dont want to start a huge debate here. So congrants and lets just leave it at that. I never claimed to be the first. And I posted/talked about HUX's runs all the time, and I always refer to Califarm. You are wrong that it is unsafe to run that amount of boost, show me proof. Dustin just got off the dyno, and he had very similar results without WI, except he saw knock around 20-21psi. So running my setup with WI and 0 counts of knock detected through the factory ECU, 0 knock detected on the dyno, and 0 knock picked up through the Detonation cans, and AF ratios were under 10.5 all the way to redline....So what is unsafe. I would have the exact same readings across the board if I ran 12 psi....And that is clearly not unsafe, so why would 21psi unsafe, if I may not even be seeing knock there without WI.....And I know for a fact I am not getting ANY knock at 21psi with the WI. --------------------

Dyno is one thing, the street is another.
I've made plenty of pulls on the dyno that later knocked on the street under the same boost setting. All Im saying is to get a turboxs knocklite and remember that this is a peashooter factory turbo thats being pushed to its limits. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Yes I know that a car can still detonate when leaving the dyno.....however unlikly in these conditons, it may still be a possibilty. Its not like I dont have a Knock detection/prevention system in the car.
I took the car home that night from leaving the dyno with the Detonation cans in place. I had Joe listen the whole ride up the highway and still encountered 0 knock. I will leave them in the car and will listen from time to time for an entire year.....at all different temperatures and weather conditions......which is far better than a Knock light that probably wont read knock any sooner than the Stock ECU will. And if the stock ECU senses knock the ECU will pull timing, which I will feel. Dont be so worried/skeptical.......like I said, I am not going about this blindly. WOW...I say...that's not bad...i usually hear people saying over 10k...but with the painting and all that good stuff just about 5K...give or take is impressive...i saw you having the anti-lag system on....did you leave that activated or off? maybe ill keep in contact with you...I too want to save up money and do what you do, but it seems my price might seem higher because I might need extra hands (maybe from the shop) to help with the work...congrats and i envy you for now...are you doing the awd conversion as well in the future? |

Ok so Tuesday stevenson is gonna grab the run files since we forgot a disc...I had a hard time figuring out this scanner so I'm not sure how great they came out. We have 3 runs on each sheet one with whp and torque and then one with just whp and then one with just torque. Jim will prob post later with more details. Within the week we will try to get a better one to post in the offical dyno sheets thread.

Thanks for the compliments everybody
I cant wait to go back to the dyno it was a great experience, and I wouldnt have changed ANYTHING about the way it went down. I got the car all setup the way I wanted, met some great people, a VERY knowledgeable dyno operator/tuner and had a great time doing it. I will head back to the dyno in the next few weeks to turn up the boost a bit more, so I know how close I am to the knock threshold. But after seeing Dustins dynos, I may not of even had knock WITHOUT the WI at 21psi. I had a short 24psi run (I abruptly let out due to a bad adjustment on the boost controller) and didnt experience ANY knock on the dyno/ through the ECU, or through the Detonation cans....and I made 340whp and 320ftlbs at 4500rpms! If I dont encounter knock until 23+psi, I wont have ANY worries keeping it at 21psi for daily use. Once I have that out of the way, I will adjust my cam gears at 21psi to see what advantages/power I can further make. It was a bit Eire/weird first rolling up to the dyno I must admit. It is in a VERY industrial part of Newark, and his shop CERTAINLY doesnt like a shop from the outside . So when they open the garage doors 5-6 (Honda/Integra guys) guys come walking out to see the car/move cars that were in the way. I saw them chuckling and talking to each other, and can only assume they were talking about my car. It has no FMIC so I am sure they pegged me with all show and no go, and probably guessed me at like 150whp . While I was on the dyno Stevenson and Shannon were standing with them. After my first pull on the dyno at 16 psi making 290whp one of the kids walked over to the screen and walked back to his friends saying "this car is the $hit." LOLOLOLOLOL I didnt find this out till later but I thought it was something funny to share. Even the dyno operator had a few questions for me after that. LOL My car was the first Celica he ever had roll into his shop.....What a way to start. --------------------
