Ok, I fixed the problem with my battery light being on, at least until I get a new harness for it (You think a Camry from the 90's that uses the same engine would work for a pig tail wiring harness?). Anyways, I want to take care of the problem with my air bag light being on. It seems that when I bought my car, it has a salvaged title and was obviously in an accident prior to buying it. So the air bags have been deployed and no longer does the car have the air bags. So I was wondering how to disable the air bag light. Anyone?

Thanks

There is a slight possibility but I'm going to say I'm about 98% sure the answer is no. Even a 5th gen Celica with a 5S will have different harness plugs for some things.

You could try taking the airbag ECU out if it's still there but even then I'm not entirely sure the light will go off. If that doesn't work the only way is to pull the bulb out of the back of the cluster. Although, depending on the state, you may have a problem with inspections. But then again I guess it wouldn't be any more of a problem than having the light on all the time.

Thanks! That was my first guess. I will do that right now. How are you by the way? I haven't seen you on much and last I heard you were selling or sold.

Oh it doesn't say AIR or anything, which fuse was it?

Ah, the car has salvaged title and it passed smog with the air bag lights on and my steering wheel exposing foam in the center. I am getting a new steering wheel from my good ol friends back in the UK, a GT4 one. It's all good. Oh and the passenger was deployed too and that piece is sticking up a bit. I am sure they know and it passed inspection without dirty smog, so I am sure it will be ok.

As soon as I can afford to get another car and order front & rear clip to have done to this car, it will no longer be on the street. I might possibly take it to meets, but more than likely will not want to risk getting into an accident and all that hard work and money put to the can from someone driving crappy. Full time track car.

Haha, I didn't even think about the SRS fuse. I guess you've had it inspected before, I thought CA was really strict with everything to do with cars, the airbag light being on wasn't a problem? I know it would be a problem up here.

LOL Yeah, I have had it pass smog twice. You know what's funny though? I am still in the learning process on cars, as I don't have much experience other than what I do with my car, and going to school to get certified in all aspects of vehicle diagnostic and repair. But my car was misfiring last time I took it to get smogged in January and needed spark plugs to be changed. I know one was just blown big time, and my car was running rich I guess, because smoke was coming out the tail pipe a bit. I didn't know what misfire was like, but my neighbors heard it and said it was doing that. I thought it was just because I needed the motor mounts changed out. Anyways, it still passed misfiring, and I thought that would affect it and prevent it from passing. Also, yes, that light, I thought would be an issue. But I guess not. They let me go and fix a problem with a valve that just needed to be capped off. I dunno, I just thought that was strange. But they always say the car passes with flying colors. Sorry, I am just rambling now, I have a bad habit of doing that. LOL

The air bag warning light is on in my car too, and I borrowed a mates ODB 2 car diagnostic tool.
I was hoping it was as simple as connecting the diagnostics tool, reading the error codes and clearing them... but I can't find the ODB 2 socket.

Does a 1996 6th gen Toyota Celica ( ST 202 ) have an ODB 2 socket ?

I popped open the little compartment under the dashboard, where the fuses are located. But didn't see any ODB 2 socket.

Any ideas ? Or was I just wrong to assume a Japanese import car would have one ?

cheers,
Owen

I gotta air bag question. Let's say a car has it's air bags deployed. Now you discovered the air bags are folded and pushed back. What are the chances those air bags are reuseable? I changed out my steering wheel, and noticed it does have an air bag that has been all folded (The old one), however it has styrofoam over the air back and the center piece has been attempted to be glued together. So I am trying to figure out of the actual air bag unit is reuseable or just slapped together.

its just slapped together.
the chemical reaction that make the airbag inflate has already taken place.

same thing as "you can't burn gas twice" kinda deal

Has anyone found an actual solution to the airbag light being on? I would like to find a real cause of the problem rather than just pull a fuse. I checked the code, it's throwing a code 11.

btw, they don't check your car for air bag lights or anything during a smog in CA. Mine's also passed twice with the airbag light on. The only light they'll check for is the check-engine light. And you can't just pull the bulb, they'll make sure it turns on when the key is in the on position and then goes off after starting the car.

i think the only real solution is to replace the sensors/reset the airbag ECU...
