I have a 1995 Celica GT with the 2.2 5fse. I am having an issues where it will turn over, start then die again. It will repeat this and wont stay running. We just replaced the distributor becuase we saw that one of the electrical inputs was busted. Any ideas on what it might be? we are thinking Igniter but not positive at this point.

Just changed the fuel pump and its doing it but instead of dying instantly it sputters then dies. we are going to check the filter tomorrow.

and it will run with throttle open if it stays running long enuff for my to apply it.

Also check your idle air control, it could be dirty or malfunctioning. My 95 did the same thing where it wouldn't run on it's own but if I gave it gas it ran fine. Try spraying some carb cleaner in the little hole in front of the throttle plate in the intake while someone else keeps the car running.

Ok so i have tried the different things, and my car will start and die. If i give it gas it will start and rev to 1500 rpms and then still die. Mechanic told me it acts like its not going into run mode which indicates an ECU issue. Anyone had this problem? its intermitent so sometimes it runs fine all day and other days i cant get it to start.

if you hold the gas will it run? not just hold it and let go when it starts. i doubt its an ECU issue, sounds more like an ISC issue.

when it does run, does it miss? Do you have a lumpy idle? Test your coil to see if its in spec.

pop ur hood, look b the brake master cyl and find the box labled "diagnostics" open it and use a paperclip to bridge the terminals labled "B+" and "FP" listen to the fuel flow through the fuel rail ontop of your intake manifold. if its even and strong, the fuel pump isn't the issue. then try to start the car that way, if it runs fine, the problem is the COR

I would really try to find out what caused the ECU to fry before going any further.
