sup guys, look i have a 10" Dual subwoofer i already got it hook up, but inside the box there's a, they call it, IllumiNite lighting that can be wire to a 12v source. i read the instructions they said donnot hook it up directly to battery as that will drain your battery so....

the back of the sub already have a "ON" and "OFF" switch for the IllumiNite

how do you hook it up?
and what kind of wire do you use?

run speaker wire to your power antenna wire on your HU. and ground it so when you turn your HU on, the likes will turn on.

hey if you dont mind can you show me a picture or a diagram, not reallie sure what a HU is or how to ground the speaker wire.

holdup what color is the power atenna wire?

your antenna power wire should be blue... the lil on that runs from the stereo to the amp for yur subs... thats your pos. and run your neg. is the base of the car.. i did it for the lights on my car..

blue wire isn't that the remote wire?? or is it the same thing??

It's usually not the same wire actually. There should be two blue wires back there one will be for the antennae [which only comes on with AM/FM radio - you wouldn't want to do this]. The blue wire with white stripe is your remaote which is already run to your amp so why not use that? One thing comes to mind - if the lights aren't shielded well you might catch some signal noise which would be bad - but try it first. If that doesn't work there should be an illumination [Orange IIRC?] wire back there that will turn the subs neons on when you turn at least the first click on your headlight stalk

so you just connect the positive to the blue (remote wire), which also connects to the deck and the amplifier, right?


alright yea, so you got the blue wire from your amplifier to your deck, and you just connect the illumiNte wire with it?

thats what i did, and my lights work.

alright, and you said ground the wire too, now that will be the negetive wire. what color wire will you ground that neg. wire to?

and what wire gauge will you recommend?

Yes and Yes. Assuming your amp is in the trunk already it should be easy enough to hook up it's blue wire to the + on the lights and the black wire to the - on the lights

Edit: Listen for signal noise before and after this operation - there is a small chance the lights aren't shielded well enough and will change the sound

gauge doesnt matter just so long as its no tooo small.

connect a wire from the chassic of the car, then run it to your neg.

ah....what do you mean "chassic"??

He means 'Chassis', as in the metal shell of your car. It is a return path for current to your battery.

So just connect it to any metal bolt etc nearby.

You might also want to check that your headunit can supply (check your manual if you have it) the current required by the illuminite light (hopefully it says how much current it requires). My head unit can only supply 300mA through it's remote wire, as it's only meant to be a signal to turn the amp on, and not a power supply to run the amp.

Subwoofers operate in a frequency range that won't be affected by something like a neon light tube, so this is not necessary.

As far as original question goes, Death nailed it.

pretty simple, run it to your amp where the 12v and the negative is. this way you pick up the remote turn on and off that way no drainage. This is how some built in lights run, through the power it gets from the amp.

Isn't the 12V at the amp always hot, and the remote wire switches an internal relay?

I'd probably wire up an external relay using the remote wire to turn it on, and the amp's power wire's for power.

pengsm: Keep an eye on your head unit and make sure it's not getting too hot, that remote line probably isn't fused, at least not externally accessible. You wouldn't want to kill your remote line, that would suck.
