So I got this nasty virus on my computer and had to wipe the hard drive and re-start it from the "recovery" partition. About a two weeks after that my hard drive started freezing up and shooting me error messages saying to call HP, so i did. I spent two hours talking on the phone with them trying to figure out what was wrong, it kept freezing on the hard disk check, so i had to send them my laptop to replace under manufactures warranty, as my laptop was only 4 months old.
I was told that if i take it to a certified HP repair center that they would fix it there. So rather than spend two days waiting for a box, and then shipping it off i decided to drive the 40 minutes to the best buy store that is an authorized repair center so that i would get it done faster. So a week goes by and i don't hear anything about it. At the second week i got a call from a best buy repair center in california saying that they needed my reciept before they could work on it. No-one at best buy or HP told me that i needed to bring a reciept. Apperently best buy couldn't run my serial number through HP to see that it is registered to me and still has 300 days of warranty left. It took 4 days of talking to like 15 different departments and getting transfered to departments that were closed, the wrong departments that the sent me back to the 1800 number i called 40 minutes earlier. After one more very aggitated phone call to HP called best buy to verify that my laptop was under warranty. THEN best buy ordered my hard drive, they had already had my laptop for over two weeks at this point now. I got a phone call from best buy a week later saying that they had my laptop and i could go pick it up. But there was a catch... The repair center didn't load any operating software on it. I gave them my broken laptop and they had sent me back a fixed paper weight!!! HP had never ONCE told me that i needed to make the cd's or to have them order me some. I then had to call HP back and have them ship me out the recovery discs i need to re load the operating software. It took another two days to get my software to make my paper wieght a laptop again. Overal it took 4 weeks in order for them to replace my hard drive. 317 minutes on my cell phone and raising my blood pressure. I will NEVER buy another HP product as long as i live... Their customer service was pathetic at best, and the hard drive gave out after only 4 months... SO.... since i havent had a laptop i havent been able to get online a whole lot to check this site, so i appologize, i did miss you guys though, i have been looking forward to the day where i can get back on this site and get back into my car lol -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

im an IT guy these things happen not because of HP but because of those supporting it. HP has a really good website support compared to many. I wouldve gotten this fixed for you in less than a few hrs with OS and software.

that sucks...
pretty sure the HD failure isn't on them though...i think all those company's just outsource the HD(but they DID pick the company!!). come to think of it, I don't know what they really provide other than piecing it together. . . It's most likely to be either a Western Digital or Seagate drive, both incredibly well known and well thought of companys...it's unusual for a drive to die in such a time period (they either die after a week or two, or last a few years , you didn't drop it at any point did you? lol -------------------- |

Ya thats the thing, i am good with computers software and hardware and could have easily handled them sending me a new HD and doing it myself but they wouln't let me. It is ridiculous that it took them that long. I have been on mac's enough to know that i just can't use to them and would still prefer a windows based system, yes i know you can run windows on a macbook, but its still the same lol -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2
