This may be a dumb question but here goes..I got this "new" car, New to me anyways and I'll drive it for a bit and
i checked the coolant after a 25-30 min drive and the top rad hose will be collapsed.Like someone put a vacuum inside the rad hose and its sucked inwards.I take the rad cap off and air goes in to the radiator and the hose comes back to life. What goin on here...? fyi:This motor is known to have weak water pumps. Might have something to do with it ?? -------------------- |

Are the hoses soft even before reaching normal temps? Could be old hoses.

On my friends car, this happened, but after we replaced the hoses, it was fine.
What kind of car is it? |

This can happen when you replace a bunch of cooling system parts. You may have air trapped in the system. You need to get that air out. Look in the factory shop manual for a procedure to purge the system. If you can't find one, run the car for a while, let it cool down and fill the radiator to the very top. Keep doing this until you can't add any more. Don't worry about overfilling, that's what the overflow bottle is for.
Since you replaced all those parts, presumably for a good reason, I would also replace the thermostat. And make sure the overflow bottle is filled to the correct level and the hose from the overflow bottle to the radiator (or wherever it connects) is not loose, broken or restricted. |
