Ok, i can do it....but do i want to do it? I can start right now and by christmas end up with all the little extras.....but is it worth it? I mean it's just an ST, but how badass would it be to have a 200hp ST? I think it'd be sweet specialy with a 5-speed. What kind of turbo's should I look at? Aint no thing to get it in my car cause i have a garage to work at. But should I even think about doing it? better yet is it truelly possible to just get the turbo in a running for 2000 or less. I'm not talking about the controlers and timers and injectors...those come for christmas. So let me know what you guys think. Anyone wanna help lol?

Personal opinion, dont do it. Alot of money for an engine who can barely make it to 200 with a turbo and then consequences of doing it (burning your engine up) arent worth it. You'll save money by doing a 3sgte swap.

I say go for it. I will attempt to do it soon and its much more satisfying turboing an engine that everyone says isn't worth it. So my opinion, go for it.

talk the they ST guys that have done it. they seem to be having good luck with theirs.
if you have a garage and some cash, id say hell yeh. if you blow your engine, then you can sell off your turbo on ebay and use the money to get a new engine that probably has less miles then what yours has now. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I say do it as well. Swaps can turn into nightmares. Just ask Ray or I.

I think the best thing to do would be find a spare 7AFE and rebuild it with good internals and then turbo that. I think I'll probably have to do somethine like this because by the time I can afford the project I'm gonna have like 200,000 miles on my car. By doing it this way, your car wouldn't have as much down time and you'd have an engine that's a lot more reliable.

If you have all this money to spend on a 7afe, then I would just buy something worth putting more into. I'm not saying the 7 is a bad engine, its not, its Toyota and its good stuff but it wasnt built for power. It'll take you a helluva lot more money to make it anything near powerful and then what? Thats it, theres no where to go. A 3SGTE has more power stock, and then potential for so much more.
I just think ur going to be throwing alot of money into an engine which is going to beat on with stock ITR's and Civic SI's. -------------------- |

if you go to a corolla forum and talk to some of the guys who turbo there 7a engines they will tell you that it is great and you can get some good power out of them some of those guys are getting 250 hp off of 7 psi. i think that it would be better doing a turbo instead of a swap

One big problem with the swap is all the little stuff that you run into, ask Coomer about that
It seems like there's more people on here and the Corolla board that could answer questions better if you have problems with the turbo rather than problems with the sway, I could be wrong though |

Minor problems could be run into by both things...just more likely in swapping. I think a 2nd gen 3s-gte would still be better for you bro, an engine that could hold up to the turbo much better and since you have a shop to do it you won't have to worry about labor etc.

yea, i'm starting to lean back towards the swap i guess. My engine is over the hill anyway. Where is the best place to find a 2nd gen 3s-gte?
