I got a 94 Toyota Celica ST I think it is. 1.8l only. Nothing special, all stock. I was driving on the road one day and it died while I was driving. Couple weeks prior to that, I replaced the old altenator to a new one due to a burning spell from the altenator. Tested and fully charged the battery and it was still good. A fried of mine thinks it's not getting no spark at all and it might have something to do with the coil or something like that? Can anyone throw some ideas as to what I need to do to get this fixed? Any helpful ideas/suggestions will be much appreciated.

When the car was dying was there and symptoms? Like rough idle, engine coughing, car jerking, etc..... Usually when you're not getting spark you'd get rough idles for one or more spark plugs not getting spark and or car won't start. Also if there was any changes in the way the RPMs suddenly climbed higher or lower than usual resulting in the car not accelerating and slow as a snail.

I believe the car just experienced little jerking. Really didn't look at the rpm when it died but the car did havea major slow down like a snail and no acceleration at all. Forgot what one of my buddies did but he took out one of the spark plug wires, held it against the motor as i tried to crank it and there was no spark? If that helps?

check your distributor cap and rotor make sure its all good. Distributor coulda went out as well.
could be a variety of problems

Yeah you might want to check your distributor cap and rotor to see if they've worn out or if any moisture is in there, just wipe it down and reinstall. If oil got into the cap then it shows signs that the cam seals may be leaking, you can wipe it down too and reinstall to drive, but it's not going to solve your problem of leaking oil. Otherwise do a quick spark plugs check to see if there's any moisture on them first. Also check your coil to see if it's out of spec, a few numbers off and it may just stop the motor. If all is good, it should almost rule out the spark system.

i think he was refering to the oil seal inside the distributor? idk. but anyways check your rotor! if it some how majically came loose from your dist. it would cause loss of spark! this happens on older cars, dnt ask me how i know.... fail. but anyways deff check that and your coil, and maybe an actual spark tester will help diag. better. thumbsup.gif
