Lots of excellent suggestions and info guys, thanks. I am definitely working on a resonator for the time being and the muffler will wait. Once I decide on a good resonator, I'll post back up and move on to the muffler.

Please do post about what resonator you're using; I just installed headers and can no longer stand the sound of my exhaust :'( (cry).

I use a custom glass pack and couldn't be happier. I have Ebay header then goes into a 2.25 piping (cat was replaced with custom glass pack) then into a magnaflow muffler. I am going to replace the magnaflows to an Apexi N1 to see if there is a difference though.

I had a Vibrant res/canister combo on my Celica and it sounded awesome- so much so that I bought a Vibrant catback for my WRX. Their stuff is pricey, but very much worth it.

Thanks guys for the update! I am looking into the Vibrant ones as well as a custom set up for a glass pack although I am leaning toward the Vibrant set up...just waiting for my buddy to remember to bring his welder home so he can help me.

okay so I can not find a vibrant or magnaflow resonator that will fit my celica. Are they all supposed to be universal? I need a 2" ID for both ends and at least 12" long. Any help in this -- part number or link?? Thanks!

MagnaFlow doesn't make resonators. They do make universal round-body straight-through mufflers, which look on the outside like a resonator, and are often mislabelled as such. I don't know for certain about Tanabe, but I'd bet they also do not make resonators.

I already have an aftermarket muffler though. Would that magnaflow straight thru muffler work for me if I install it before my already installed perf. muffler? I know 2 mufflers sounds stupid but it sounds to me like the straight thru magnaflow muffler is really a resonator (but labeled a 'muffler').

I just got an ebay muffler installed on my car. Its just a generic n1 can but it sounds amazing!! its really deep and you can feel it in your chest when you get on the gas. plus it was only 25 bucks! i can post a sound clip sometime if you want.

http://www.aeroperformanceexhaust.com/products.htm
Can someone click on the link above...it will bring you to aero performance website. Scroll down until you see the AR20 resonator and then look to the right where it says 'add to cart'. There is a little selection key where I need to enter the direction...either right or left. What does that mean??? |

I think it only pertains to those with dual exhaust. So put whatever you want there.
Put this muffler on your car with this resonator. I have a Vibrant catback with the same muffler (only polished) and it creates a nice mellow note. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

Alright, finally got my new Aero Turbine AR20 Resonator. It looks perfect and is a solid quality resonator. It's heavier than I thought but looks very nice. I included a pic of the stock resonator my buddy cut out almost 2 weeks ago. I'm currently running a straight pipe we put on (temporarily), and now the new resonator will be installed and welded this weekend. I have high hopes that my header, hi-flow cat, new resonator, and my performance exhaust will finally sound what I expect it to sound like.

My muffler is an Aero as well but with the stock reso and now the straight pipe it sounded semi-ok and now sounds like crap. I am really hoping this new Aero reso will make it prime! It only cost me $55 plus shipping too.

Please do post about what resonator you're using; I just installed headers and can no longer stand the sound of my exhaust :'( (cry). Ok, my buddy installed and welded my new Aero AR20 resonator. It sounds awesome! Even in the upper RPM range it still sounds great and there's no more tinny or raspy noise in the upper RPMs like I had with the straight pipe. One Question though, will the resonator get louder or will it always sound the way it does now. I like it now perfectly. |
