reset the trip odometer immeditly after fill up, drive till about a half a gallon or gas or so is left, do a rough estimate so far when i was all highway i was 45mpg, around town though its somewhere in the 30's x2 Just reset the trip when you fill up your car and then when you fill it up again you'll have how many gallons you've used and the distance traveled. From there its just simple division. I usually get between 320 and 350 miles before the fuel light comes on which is around 28 mpg when I fill up. I will say that while I do drive spiritedly and am usually slowing down when entering a highway (from around 90), I do use cruise control at every opportunity whether its on the highway going 75 or in town going 30. I've found that cruise control can really help with your gas mileage. On my trip down to AC I got a little over 30 to the gallon and had my cruise control set for between 75 and 80 the whole way down. It depends on your driving really. I have gotten as bad as 21 mpg but that was on back country roads and I was redlining every gear on a trip to Hazleton PA. 50 in the 25's, 90+ in the 55's that kinda thing so I expected awful gas mileage. Then again... it was a lot of fun haha. |

Only if you are being pulled behind a trailer or rolling down a steep hill with the engine off and in neutral

I get 34mpg on average in my 1996 ST with 108,000 miles. That is about 70% highway (averaging 65mph) and 30% city driving. I have a CAI with a K&N filter, 17" TC Wheels with Hankook V4ES with everything else stock.
Oh and that is me being a pretty spirited driver as well. I do expect that to drop by about 3-4mpg when the AC is on this summer. Casey This post has been edited by caszboy: May 20, 2009 - 1:26 PM -------------------- |

Hmmm, the last few times I filled up, I was getting 26 in my GT. No AC, with some spirited driving here and there and probably about 50-50 cty-hwy.
Not bad! |

Was your car imported from Canada? I've never seen a gt-s vert in the states before. I don't know but now I will have to check. I don't think it was, though. I live in SoCal and it would be a long trip from Canada to here. Thank you for all the feedback everyone. It seems that for a GT that an average of about 23 is about right. I filled up yesterday and had gone 297.2 miles on 12.7 gallons of gas for an average of 23.4. It is also apparent that ST seems to get better mileage from those of you who have weighed in with that. I am going to Vegas this weekend and that should be all open road so I will see how high it goes up to... |

i get about 20-25 mpg. not too bad given that my car has 168XXX miles. STs should be getting a lil better mileage than GTs -------------------- 94 Celica GT

I am going to Vegas this weekend and that should be all open road so I will see how high it goes up to... Highway mileage is worse in a convertible. The vert has more drag because the roof is not real smooth or aerodynamic. You might as well just put the top down for the trip, take the extra couple mpg hit and enjoy yourself. |

Make sure you have your tires at the right PSI and a clean air filter! That should help your MPG a bit. Have fun in Vegas! im going there for the first time Aug 23-25 for a bachelor party.
Here is a extra little tid bit about the MPG thing. If you drive a 5-speed, you should get a little better then an auto. That might add to why some of y'all are a little off from each other. Casey This post has been edited by caszboy: May 21, 2009 - 3:25 PM -------------------- |

That makes sense - I actually thought about that. Although I am in southern california so I have my top down constantly. I plan to have the top down all the way to Vegas, but we will see how hot it gets! On a side note, I was reading the manual and it "recommends" 91 octane gas, so I spent the big bucks and filled up with 91. I have noticed zero difference in performance, but will everyone know if it helps my gas mileage... |

Casey Yeah, that's why I figured his was too low. If you have a manual and someone with an auto and the same car is getting better mpg than you, either a) your car needs some work or b) you drive with a lead foot. -------------------- |

Yeah, my mileage tops at 34. Which was mostly highway. I can get as low as 28 though, when I'm flooring it, redlining it, and really being rough with the car.
I'm all about gas mileage though, I track it every time I fill up. I average a little over 30 -- about 31. 1996 ST 5 speed, 73,XXX miles, no modifications at all, not even an exhaust or rims. NOTE: I also do city cruising (30mph constants) in 5'th gear. I think this helps my gas mileage quite a bit, and it doesn't make my engine choke or anything. |

I average combined about 27-35mpg, trying to go slow on highways (55-65mph), and try to have a feather light foot in city.
A bit of a waste for a SS-ii 3sGE beast. But feels good to boost now and again - Shell V-power is great but expensive 98 octane petrol. If in the UK - use this calculator - its brilliant http://www.grantgibson.co.uk/misc/fuel-economy-calculator/ This post has been edited by san0: May 22, 2009 - 4:13 PM -------------------- san0.:GT-SS2:. |

I get anywhere between 34-38 mpg. Car has 282k but the engine's only at about 155k. I think the lowest it's ever been was about 31, but I was lead-footing EVERYWHERE.
