Decided to make our own pod holders and the results are great.
Fabricated from scratch, moulded from ST205 dash, designed to fit 52mm gauges. Made in 2mm thick black leather grain high impact polystyrene, making the leather effect same as the original Toyota dash. It will be held on by using double sided tape. No need to drill anything anywhere!!!! This post has been edited by yellowchinaman: Jun 23, 2009 - 7:59 AM |

Similar but not the same. We made these with some thought in mind:
-the triple gauges are off set from each other so that it's more angled to the driver -shorter "tails" on each ends to eliminate the "tenticles" look -more flatter and flushed design to flow with original dash -durable and tougher high impact plastic -more space inside the pods to allow fixings, plugs and screw rings meaning any 52mm gauges will fit. -leather grain print based on OEM dash for consistancy effect we plan to make 60mm holders and sorry we only have RHD versions. Any chance to get a write up on how to make these? Seems Coca Cola won't tell u how to home made rite? Save the breath dude... you know what, thats bull. this is a community. if it wernt for the people that came before you, and most of the others on this site, giving the whos hows and whats of what they did, and how they did it, this site wouldnt exist. people need to step back, and realize this is a niche car. there really is no "market" for the parts, other than this site, and maybe ebay. we need to try and be MORE helpfull, and less concerned with making a buck anywhere we can. if someone dont want to share the details of how they did somthing, thats fine, but dont go acting like your doing some kind of rocket science, thats changing the world. some of the additudes on this site make me sick. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Sorry Manny, but the instructions on how to make anything are outthere, this is not a new discovery of information, but it is time and money invested, if anyone is interested on making something like this, it can be done, but it is disrespectful to ask the seller for instructions on how to put himself out of business. When doGGy showed pictures of his work, noone ask for instructions, we know what's involved on making those pieces, but not all of us have the skills to do it, It'd have been disrespectful if we asked for dimensions to jeff when he made the rear strut bars, we could go and measure the car and do it ourselves, but he was taking part of his time to make them for people, same with anyone else selling anything here. These small projects / business are also part of a community, they are created because of the lack of interest of bigger companies, the community develop their own parts / upgrades. This is the same situation that happened not long ago with Randy, He did a great work on the rain deflector, he can not / should not / doesn't want to share the specs, because that's his work, and people should not be entittle to it just because they are members of the community, he didn't like the idea of someone else using his pictures for advertising a similar product, let alone someone trying to get his drawings and he's in all his right, why ? because it was his time and resources invested toward that.

agreed stevenson, and the guys that do take the time to produce products for this community deserve to have the right to keep theyre specific designs to themselfs.
however, instead of posting "dont waste your breath asking", someone could just as easily post some generic instruction on how to build a gauge pod, or a google link, or somthing productive that encourages the community to move forward and try new things. its the way people have become so quick to dismiss anyone from trying somthing for themselfs instead of buying a ready made product that rubs me the wrong way. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I agree with both views. Bothsmall time business as well as helping each other out are part of the community.
There's no reason to be arsy by either viewholder. If people making this stuff to sell don't want to provide their methods, that's perfectly fine, and understandable from their point of view, but as said, the info is available on the internet somewhere, so the "secret" will be out soon enough anyway. besides that, I do not plan to buy either this set or the other one that was made to order, simply because I live on the other side of the pond and total cost simply does not warrant any of this stuff for me. If people can understand and realise that some people are not willing to spend several hundreds of dollars on a gauge pod because shipping from the US to the rest of the world starts at 150 US$ and up, then I think we are halfway to helping each other out. If people can understand this point of view and are willing to PM me (and other non-US'ers that cannot/will not pay more on P&P than the product costs) with their advice, then I can promise to keep it to myself so I do not undermine their business. All in good spirit... |

its the way people have become so quick to dismiss anyone from trying somthing for themselfs instead of buying a ready made product that rubs me the wrong way. agreed. Recently its my way or the highway. its become like a ebay marketplace recently. but not my call to make. BACK ON TOPIC I believe these pods need to be also LHD. this IS the good stuff.. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... Hi everyone. I appreciate the support with new products but really there is no big deal or secret in making these. It's just time, skill and craftsmanship to make something of this quality and for it to reflect the price.
Yes products for the gen 6 is niche but its not allwasy about money. RT-Performance supports a rally team which drives GT4's and in all our rally cars we have roll cages. This means havinggauges in the A piller is not an option. This is why using our resources we adopted teh DDG idea. Anyone can make these really if they have the right materials and equitpment and I'm sure people can look up how to make thes out of fibreglass at home. We basically made a ceramic model and vacume formed it. Easy however having the skills to make it, access to industrial equiptment and the material to make the products was the challenge. In all RT-P invested over £1K to develope and fabricate just 10 of these. They where all hand made and crafted to fit using my car as a template over 2 weeks duration. Our price reflects the cost and the quality of the product. Here are a few picturs of development: Sales on these in the UK are very good. We're onto our second batch now and had requests for 60mm gauges to be made and other requests for other cars to be made too. If I was to be able to obtain a LHD dash then I can make LHG gauges for the US market. You can buy these on our website at www.RT-Performance.com and please dont feel discouraged to order from the UK to be sent abroad as these are light weight and made of high inmpact plastic so they wont break in postage and doesnt cost alot to send. Of course if you tell us you're in the 6G forum when enquiring from the website, we can offer a small discount being a 6G member. PS: There is no 6 months waiting on these gauges as they've available to buy now whilst stock lasts. Ray This post has been edited by yellowchinaman: Jun 27, 2009 - 12:00 PM |

first of all, nice work with fabing up the gauge pods. but with that said, this is sounding more like it should belong in the for sale section than in the interior section.

I thought about that at the start but this post was more initially to show what we could do and make. I have read this 2x now and I can't find a price (Am I just Blind?). vincent_doggy Price to NZ fo rthe Tripple Please. WWSideWinder As above hence why I didn't put any prices up.
